The Loudness War - your experiences
Quote: Quote: I have to agree with DJGeorge here, when I'm working on a mix, I try to listen to it through as many different systems as possible. I find the music sounds different on a home stereo, compared to a car stereo, or headphones. It also helps to keep in mind... -
Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote: We have a store like that here in New Mexico. Grandma's music and sound. I took several sources in when shopping for can's and they were happy to let me sample an array of different can's for as long as I wanted.- radu

Is anyone participating in No-Shave November (Movember)?
Going 16 days strong into No Shave November! About 15 of us at work have a running bet, whoever shaves first has to buy everyone else breakfast. Needless to say it looks kind of like a soup kitchen around here :P Cant say I like the mustache that is growing, but I'm digging the beard. ...- radu

One suggestion, but you may have heard of them already, is X-Dream, they are one of my favorite old school GOA artists. -
Non pop/contempory well recorded/mastered female singers
Quote: Regal, the album sounds great through my gear (which is low end), I was able to get a few screen shots of the first 2 tracks in Audacity, so you can judge for yourself. This is from the CD which was ripped to my computer in FLAC using EAC. That being said I would... -
Non pop/contempory well recorded/mastered female singers
Funny I came across this thread after trading some female Jazz/Blues singer's CD's with a coworker. I can make 2 recommendations of artists that I have just found: Cee Cee James - Low Down Where the Snakes Crawl - Great album, amazing voice, and a lot of talent backing her up. ... -

Amp recommendation for Shure SRH840's
Hmmm, I have no experience with DAC's as my gear is used in a portable setup with my D2/Clip as source. From what I understand DAC's only make a subtle improvement in sound. But again, I have not used one, so my opinion is based on hearsay. If I had to recommend one that you listed, I would...- radu

What book are you reading right now?
Quote: Hey! Glad to see another Stephenson fan, ever since my aunt sent me a copy of SnowCrash I have been hooked on his writting. In fact, right now I am reading Quicksilver, the first of his Baroque Novels, it is a different style than his normal works, but very interesting read!- radu

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I was a fan of Funeral, but got burned out listening to that album. To me, the Suburbs sounds boring, uninspired, almost like a bad rehash of thier earlier work as opposed to moving the band in another direction. I know people will disagree with me, to each thier own, but this is my opinion... -

My First Cans: RX900 or SRH840
My first pair of "quality" headphones were a pair of Shure SRH840's. I had similar requirements, I use them exclusively at work so they could not leak any sound. I also was looking for the best price/performance ratio in my dollar range, and the Shure's fit the bill perfectly. I have had...- radu

Big dissatisfaction of YUIN earbuds
Nothing new to add other than more Yuin cable problems. I have 3 pairs of pk3's, they kept breaking in the exact same place, right near the plug. The first time was my fault, I did not have a case for my D2, and used the headphone cable to pull the D2 out of my pocket to pause/change songs (I...- radu

Looking for new music like this. . .
Are you talking about the main singer? I admit his voice is an acquired taste, but give it a chance and it will grow on you. There are also 2 females that sing for DP, they both have amazing voices. Listen to Bitte Orca if you can, its a great record, and produced well to boot! -

Driving with Headphones
Wow, not sure where all the hate over driving with headphones/earbuds came from? I tend to use my Yuin Pk3's while i'm driving long distances because my car stereo is stock and does not have connections for my D2. I've been using earbuds while driving for many years with no issues...- radu

Yuin Pk2 Retermination Issues
Hello, I own a pair of Pk2's that are broken at the headphone plug end. I have read about reterminating headphones and decided to give it a shot. I am using a stereo plug I purchased from Radioshack. So far I have been able to strip the wires and connect them to the new plug, however I...- radu
