Choosing studio headphones - real life tests inside
Quote: I thought the Denon was more a semi open head phone. I think the headroom charts will show the isloation is not great compared to e.g. the AKG 271. Have you considered the Fischer Audio FA-003?- smaugem

K701 thread
Interesting posts about dampening the resonances. I returned a pair of k701s after 9 mponths due to resonance problems. In hindsight I could have dampened them (I tried opening them but did not know how to remove the grills). Anyway the replacement pair don't suffer this problem but I will still...- smaugem

Dents in my head from K701 headband
I noticed the same thing. I thought my head was changing but noticed the dents appeared only after using the headphones and went away in a day or two. The 701 appreciation thread has some simple headband mods.- smaugem

AKG K701 resonance problem
When listening to my k701s, occasionally I get a buzz from the right channel. I ran a sine wave sweep and found it to occur around 450Hz. I can dampen or stop it by pressuring the case firmly so I don't think it's the driver. Has anyone encountered this or have knowledge of what the likely...- smaugem

What's the most heavily modded K701?
A very easy and cheap mod which greatly improved my enjoyment of the k701 (reduced the 7-8kHz peak): http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/akg...others-411268/- smaugem

k701 veil?
There have been several threads on modding the k701s by removing or changing the foam inserts. My experience was the opposite to yours. I found a strong peak in the 6-8kHz range to cause added clarity but made anything with strong cymbals or distorted guitars overpowering. I replaced the foam...- smaugem

How to equalize your headphones: A Tutorial
Thanks everyone for this valuable thread. I was eagerly searching for ways to produce a more balanced sound from my 2-month-old k701s. Following advice here, I set up some sweep tones in Logic Audio and created instances of Apple's AUParametricEQ AudioUnit to give a constant perceived loudness...- smaugem

The AKG K701 - Friend or Foe - Mods that may help others
Thanks everyone for this valuable thread. I purchased a pair of K701s a couple of months ago for about 50% mixing and 50% listening. I was impressed with the detail, especially for acoustic music, but found anything with prominant cymbals or distorted guitars to be overbearing. Following this...- smaugem
