Want to build a tube amp not using sub mini tubes need suggestions

Hi   I'm a long time browser but infrequent poster. I want to DIY a tube amp using tubes larger then sub mini. I've already build a Bijou and Maple Tree Ear+ knockoff, both from scratch not kits. Now I need another amp for the 2nd floor of the house. I'd like it to be busier and more...

    Power indicator for transformer enclosure

An LED will work fine on AC. No blink. No need for "AC to DC circuit...." You still need a series resistor to limit current regardless if you feed it AC or DC. Feed it AC from low volt (heater winding) end of a transformer. Don't recommend feeding it AC from line voltage end of transformer...

    Transformer wiring

If you truly have infinite ohms from black to white...the problem is your primary winding is open. You will measure line voltage across that winding when plugged in regardless if the primary is good or bad.

    Never ordering from Markertek again!

Yes, it sucks to deal with back-orders. Yes, it sucks to pay extra for the privilege too. You can get a part shipped Parcel Post for less than $5, but many vendors don't use them. Then you have the cost of the box. If the part doesn't fit in an envelope and isn't shipped Parcel Post, $5...

My first tube DIY--based on a kit--with pics

Finished construction and checkout today. Did some checks of B+ and filament voltage, found them high. then realized they would read high with no tubes thus no load.... Plug in tubes, recheck supplies, plug in cans, plug in source....rewarded with clean sound: rs1smile: Final touches...

Quick pic about 1/2 way wired. Unusual mounts for the caps. Whatcha think? Good, bad, ugly?

My first tube DIY--based on a kit--with pics

It's an Ear+ Purist HD (not 2). The diodes were a challenge. Only 90 percent happy with my solution. Thank goodness it all gets covered by a box :-) Haven't quite figured out how I want to label the panels. I positively don't want to use simple rub-on transfers, not sure I have enough...

    The stubborn solder joint (desoldering)

Often, blowing the molten solder out works well. Fill the cheeks, heat the solder, and forcefully expel the air directly over the board hole.

My first tube DIY--based on a kit--with pics

It's not my design. Available as both kit and assembled. I just gathered the parts myself. With some documentation help. I only *wish* my decades of experience led me to my own design.

My first tube DIY--based on a kit--with pics

Hello folks. I'm an infrequent poster, but have built electronics from kits and scratch for a few decades. I fell into the antique radio hobby a year and a half ago, so decided my PPA needed some vacuum tube company. I'm putting together a familiar amp from scrach. Since everybody loves...

MAD amp too spendy, need DIY suggestion

Hello. I'm a long time, casual lurker, infreqquent poster. Got sidetracked with antique radio for the past year.... I want to build a tube based headphone amp. Been watching the price of the MAD amps climb for the past year. I *really* want one of the EarPlus purist amps, but at $500 its...

    A very angry man...

Anyone with data on a drive WILL lose data. It's not if, but when. You may accidently delete something, the OS may corrupt something, or the electronics may die. Same result. Your only defense is backups and archives. I've tossed a few files by accident. Only harm done is lost time...

    Stay out of trouble.

FWIW, I had a good experience with an Ipod replacement and CompUSA. Had a 2nd gen unit go dead, they replaced it no questions asked. Of course, that was a $60 plan. The only other plan I've ever purchased was from Apple, back in the early 90s. They actually came to my apt and service the...

My first multimeter - what do I need?

A dirt cheap multimeter will do fine for solid state work and the occasional repair around the house. But they probably have zero safety features for you or itself. This is how they cut corners to save money. You should get something better if you get into tube amps or measure line voltage...

    Freddy Fender RIP

Can't call myself a fan, but a couple of his songs bring back early teen memories for me. Mother of my best neighborhood friend was a fan. She was in an abusive relationship and played his music a lot. So the songs I have bring up memories of simpler times, friends long ago, and troubled...

    Just Bought an iMac!!

I've been using Drop Drawers for years, since OS 8. It's a pallet style launcher. Slam the cursor to one edge to get clickable list of open apps. Keep bottom edge full of pallets sorted by type of function. Folders, apps, utilities, etc. Click mouse wheel to hide/show these pallets. I also...

The Dock. You will either hate it or love it. I'm in the former class and use other means to communicate with my Mac. You may want to install Fruit Menu so you can have an old fashioned Apple menu to launch things from. It's old school.

    Just Bought an iMac!!

You can expect a more stable OS. You can expect consistent shortcuts from app to app. You can expect an OS that doesn't get in the way (with nags/reminders/dialogs nearly as often. You can expect much tighter control of compatibility between software and hardware. You can expect much greater...
