Hello folks.
I'm an infrequent poster, but have built electronics from kits and scratch for a few decades. I fell into the antique radio hobby a year and a half ago, so decided my PPA needed some vacuum tube company.

I'm putting together a familiar amp from scrach.
Since everybody loves pics, here's some of a work in progress.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is mounting the two power transformers.
Had to fab my own bracket for the Triad unit, and finding screws for the Hammond was a bit tough too. Plan to replace these with smaller heads and/or nylon

Rest assured that the good DR. will get a donation as my appreciation for good design.

Lookin' sharp! What design are you using for the circuit?

I like the way you mounted the diodes.... that is of the major qualms I had with the Doctors kit. That and the paint that got scratches in it just by looking hard at it.
Speaking of which:
I think I would have filled the seams in the case with bondo before painting it but to each his own.

Yes, well - the second transformer had me scratching my head, but thought that perhaps the tube heaters were broken out separately. There seems to be some physical similarity other than that:

It sounds like my guess was wrong, though.

Isn't that a maple tree kit?

Not a morgan Jones, the MJ is an earmax clone... hence they are OTL.

I'd the same thought: "Is this a MAD Ear+ Purist HD"?
Looks pretty similar the outside components position/size (tubes, position for volume knob, power and headphone output).

It's not my design. Available as both kit and assembled.
I just gathered the parts myself. With some documentation help.

I only *wish* my decades of experience led me to my own design.

Good job, that looks sweet!

Are you planning to add the C4S upgrade to it? Everyone I knew who have had SEX before all say that adding a CCS is one of the best things you can do to enhance the experience.

It's an Ear+ Purist HD (not 2).

The diodes were a challenge. Only 90 percent happy with my solution.
Thank goodness it all gets covered by a box :)

Haven't quite figured out how I want to label the panels.
I positively don't want to use simple rub-on transfers, not sure I have enough talent to create some sort of 2 dimensional look like recessed characters.

Any ideas?

BTW, The Dr. is OK with me posting my DIY work and yes, I *did* send him a donation.
