Is Amarra useless?
Hi Folks, As an audiophile, I love to listen to music the way that it was recorded. At the same time, I know that this can be done without spending ridiculous amounts of money (and the accompanying placebo effect - "it sounds airy", "more full bodied"). Now, coming to the point, I...- akart

Looking for a good CD Transport/Player (~$500) to use with external DAC
Hi Folks, I have a Meier Audio Concerto hooked up to a Meier StageDAC. The DAC receives its input from a COAX coming from my Macbook Pro (through M2Tech HiFace). I usually play lossless FLACs and AIFFs on my computer. I am planning to get a CD transport/player, just for convenience...- akart

Are expensive digital transports useless?
First of all, by "transport" I mean a unit that just spins the discs and outputs a DIGITAL signal to an external DAC/AMP combination. The question I am wondering about is whether a $20,000 transport is even *in principle* (forget reality) better than the CD player on my IBM Thinkpad when it...- akart

Beyerdynamic T1 and Meier Concerto - pure EARGASM
Folks, I am pretty new to the audiophile scene. I did not understand how visceral soundstaging and clarity can be until I heard the following album: https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HD707723004420 Brilliantly mastered and one of Steve Guttenberg's...- akart

Digital TOSLINK better or M2Tech HiFace + COAX ?
Which one of these options results in a higher quality signal from the computer? 1. Van Den Hul Optocoupler MkII (supposed to be one of the best TOSLINK cables around) OR 2. M2Tech HiFace + a good COAX cable? I might think it is the optical cable since there is no...- akart

SACD and digital out?
Is it true that SACD players cannot output a digital stream? This would basically make an external DAC useless, and one would need to used the analog outs of the SACD player. In my opinion, this is a major handicap to the wider adoption of the SACD format. Also, most external DACs have DAC...- akart

Music to test out an amp's capabilities
Hi Everyone, I hope this is the right sub-forum to post this in. If not, please let me know and I can post it on the right board. What do you think is a representative set of music CDs that would test out an amp's capabilities (bass, treble, mids, soundstage, instrument separation)...- akart

T1 + StageDAC + CONCERTO/WA3 ?
Hello All, I am planning to pull the trigger on a T1 + STAGEDAC + either a CONCERTO or a WA3 with NOS tubes upgrade. Any suggestions? Of course, I think in part this is about whether one prefers SS or Tube, but I've heard great things about the Concerto's low noise floor and detail...- akart

Can Woo Audio 2 drive the Beyerdynamic T1 properly ?
The rating on the T1 is 600 ohms. The rating of the Woo Audio 2 is from 30 ohms to 600 ohms. The T1 is therefore on the very outer edge of the rating on the Woo Audio 2. Is this all right? I would imagine that there is some kind of a distortion in amplification when the amplifier is operating at...- akart
