Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?
Thought I would post again so Jude doesn't revoke my membership. Can you believe that it's been 17+ years since this community was started, and look what it's grown into. I remember when HeadRoom was about the only place that one could get a variety of different headphone amps and now they are...- JMT

A headphone tribute goodbye to Tyll from Innerfidelity
Congratulations Tyll. Never forget when you made the journey (with your daughter) to the meet at my house. You made it a very special meet, it was a thrill for us in Northern CA to meet you and see all of the new stuff that Headroom was developing. Dare I say that you were a trailblazer to this...- JMT

Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!
So I finally got the new firmware loaded in my X3, created a playlist in Foobar, saved in the root directory of my CD card and updated my media library. The playlist shows on the CD card but when I try to access it on the X3 it says "no playlist files found." What am I doing wrong? -
The Fiio X3 Thread.
It was formatted with the X3. I don't think so, I've downloaded the firmware twice to make sure.- JMT

The Fiio X3 Thread.
I sent their support department an email, they directed me to the instructions that I have already been following. Thank you for your mail and support to FiiO! 1. Are you sure that the x3.fw firmware file has already been loaded to the root directory of the TF card? Kindly be noted that...- JMT

The Fiio X3 Thread.
I cannot seem to update the firmware on my X3 to the new version. I bought a dedicated Sandisk microCD card (8gb), formatted it with the X3, extracted the X3.fw file to the card, inserted it, pressed the menu and power button. I get the message "file not found". Any suggestions?- JMT

Request for pictures
At one time I used to build amps for others. I would estimate in my building days I probably built in excess of 400 amps that I sent all over the world. Unfortunately, I did not keep any pictures of the builds and would love to have an album of sorts....just for memories. If you have any of the...- JMT

I still hang out here, mostly in the Mod Lounge. Still have my HD650's and my HeadRoom Max. Funny thing, of all the amps I built in the past, I kept none for myself.- JMT

A question to all the vinyl junkies
Quote: I would advise against using tissue on your vinyl, tissue leaves lint behind which can cause surface noise. I do have many albums that exhibit very little surface noise, but 100% noise free "like a CD" is not what vinyl is about in my opinion. To me, part of listening to vinyl is...- JMT

A question to all the vinyl junkies
Even new vinyl can sometimes exhibit a distracting amount of noise. I purchased the new 180g MoFi releases of Santana S/T and Abraxas and both had some pops and clicks. Once cleaned on my VPI 16.5, the majority of the distracting noise went away. In my opinion, owning a quality wet/dry cleaning...- JMT

A question to all the vinyl junkies
Quote: It is definitely possible to listen vinyl without hearing any distracting surface noise. How did you clean it? Did you use an RCM (record cleaning machine) and some quality record cleaning solution (like Vinyl Zyme)? One cause of surface noise is bacteria in the grooves that can only...- JMT

i need a tackle box to organize my components
When I first started building amps for others, I kept my components in a box that I purchased at an art supply store. I think it was originally intended for beads or something. Had the perfect size compartments, 3 layers plus a bottom layer large enough for PCB's and my soldering equipment.- JMT

recommendations on transporting vinyl?
How many albums do you need to move? I moved over 1100 albums from Arizona to Northern California in a U-Haul. My main concern was the heat going through the desert (this was in August if I recall correctly). Just make sure the albums are packed upright and secure in whatever boxes you manage...- JMT
