K1000 with Sub Woofer
I use a first generation REL sub with my AKG K1000 in a small room. I initially had problems integrating, after advice, eventually settling on the lowest setting & not too much volume on the sub woofer. I also found it better to place the sub on a granite chopping board rather than directly...- Nigel

K501s with K701s pads is an amazing transformation!
Paul, I have bought the 501/601/701 pads from this company for my K501's. No problems, bit of a long delivery time for the K601 pads but well worth the wait.- Nigel

K501 triple mod - applicable to other open cans
I don't dispute your pioneering spirit but why try to drastrically change something that sounds great anyway? I've tried the K701 pad change & it sounds excellent on certain recordings but it changes the sonic signature so much it's not the same headphone. One step forward followed by two steps...- Nigel

K501s with K701s pads is an amazing transformation!
So, with the benefit of hindsight & experience, what's the current opinion, which are the best pads for the K501 owner? Stock pads, K701's or K601's? I have K501's & was wondering which pads to try. Cheers- Nigel

Two-cent tweak for K501--sweeter and punchier
Good tweak this Ferbose! Subtle but effective yet very worthwhile. You'll be pleased to know people are still trying it a few years after your initial findings. With regard to the K501 lack of bass, I've only had the headphones for a week, it seems to me any bass enhancement tweaks, such as...- Nigel

Anyone interested in a AKG K501 with a cardas cable mod review?
Anyone else tried this? Is the Cardas a worthwhile upgrade to the K501 or is the stock cable decent enough already?- Nigel

Heed CanAmp
Although not having heard the combo myself, people, who's ears I trust, report Grado & Heed are not are match made in heaven. I think you may be better going elsewhere. Good luck.- Nigel

Heed CanAmp
I don't know if Heed using different component suppliers will have a detrimental effect on sound qualities but I just wanted to say my PinkFloyd modified CanAmp is a fantastic sounding piece of equipment. I use mine naked with the AD823 opamp & it really offers emotional involvement & total...- Nigel

Heed CanAmp
The CanAmp only has phono connectors so you would need an appropriate cable. I guess it might power extremely efficient speakers.- Nigel

Heed CanAmp
Hi, Anyone know what current the CanAmp uses on idle? Switched on with the volume turned right down? I've been leaving mine on 24/7 lately but just wondering what kind of current she would be using, then we can work out the watts. Also, mine buzzes if you tap it hard. Anyone listened...- Nigel

Hi Fitz, I think these are the correct part numbers? K501 headband - Z458Z3501 Velour pads - 2955Z2601 Thanks for your help. Shame about the tweeter, am I correct in thinking it just packs in? Or, is it gradually deteriorating day by day? Cheers, Nigel- Nigel

K340 KT88 mod guide :)
Hi KT88, First of all, thank you for your excellent mods & advice. I guess I'll have to play with the cotton wool & blue-tak. I guess more cotton wool, less bass? I'm going to try & source a K501 headband & velour earpads as per your recommendations. I've also ordered a replacement...- Nigel

K340 KT88 mod guide :)
Hi, I picked up an unmodified pair of these last week. First impressions were of hardly any bass, especially in comparison with my usual HD600's. Anyway, I replaced the elastics, very positive results, especially as the headband was extremely loose beforehand. I cut the plastic grill cover...- Nigel
