SBLive Owners only(getting rid of the hiss)
The analog output for Live is bad regardless the inputs are muted or not. Creative save a few bucks and opted for cheaper codec which explained the buzzing sound.- xerx

Harsh treble characteristic of HP-890?
Mine does that too, though on different song. It only happens in one or two mp3s out of a thousand songs, so I take it as bad recording.- xerx

portable + amp =no hiss?
Santa Cruz probably give you the best sound you ever hear from a mid level consumer soundcard. Just for a comparison, I think the Santa Cruz sound pretty flat when its played without the EQ, while Live sound to me is more to the dull side.- xerx

SBLive Owners only(getting rid of the hiss)
I have tried it before but the result still no where as good as Santa Cruz. I read the Extigy reviews on the Digit-Life and here's what they said about the front channel output quality of recent creative cards. "The Audigy has a powerful operational amplifier to maintain the load when...- xerx

Humble portable rig sounding better than it has right to be; HD580->useless in summer

In my case, even the most expensive headphone is useless for most of the time. It's so hot here around 36C, and there is no way to avoid sweating if there ain't any air conditioner or a table fan buzzing directly at my face.- xerx

WinAmp problems
1. You might want to use the Cd Reader plugin. It read the cd digitally so no distortion of any kind. 2. Set winamp priority to highest. 3. Set the buffer of waveout(or directsound, depends on which you use) to 5000ms.- xerx

Philips 890 (and 910, kind of)
The HP890 is one of a kind headphone. It probably doesnt have the detail like HD600, HD580 but they too doesnt offer the superb soundstage that HP890 offers. The fact that why everyone who like them (eg. me) is mainly due to its one of a kind soundstage. Whether the treble rolloff or the bass is...- xerx

497 grainy?
Try addin some EQ to your mp3s. You might want to leave the 1K untouch, and turn the rest (2K and above) bit by bit until you get the best part of it.- xerx
