Best Sounding Rock CD?
To my ears, all of the MTV "Unplugged" albums sound great, especially through headphones. I heartily second another poster's suggestion of the Alice in Chains edition, as well as all of the already-mentioned suggestions which I've heard. A few other rock albums which I feel are... -
Nevermind, Ten, and Siamese Dream CD re-issues.
1993: http://imageshack.us/f/803/1993.jpg/ 2011: http://imageshack.us/f/267/2011bo.jpg/ It's not terrible sounding, but it's not an improvement. -
Vote for your favorite Dream Theater album!
Octavarium for me. It has so many good songs leading up to the awesome Sacrificed Sons, and then the mindblowingly epic title track. Second would be a tough pick. How bout "all the rest of them" -
DO YOU HATE NICKELBACK?
I too have worked in a place that blasted pop radio 24/7, so I understand you're just venting a bit. And, really, Nickleback does suck. Nobody here would disagree with me. Still, the focus should be on what you do like. -
Dolby Headphone + Foobar2000 = AWESOME
My sound card can do it so I've messed around with it a bit. I guess I'm a bit of a purist, but I mostly prefer regular stereo. I do use dolby headphone occasionally when listening to a live album when I want to just shut my eyes and really relax. It's a mood thing.- Gurck

Eminems new album...SQ?
I hear it too. The waveform looks pretty compressed, peaks are brickwalled. It's too bad, I was unimpressed with his 3rd and 4th albums and sort of lost interest - but I'm really digging the lyrics on this one so far. It's just a bit hard to listen to. -
Your Recent Music Discoveries?
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones I'm not a huge fan of the banjo but I have to admit he's excellent. I was really drawn to them after hearing bassist Victor Wooten though, who is amazing. -

Truly terrifying listening experience you've had with headphones!
I used to have a hard time waking up, so I set the first 15 seconds of Pink Floyd's Time to my alarm. YAAGHHH! -
What do you use to rip your CD's?
EAC -> Wav, dBpoweramp to convert to flac, Mp3tag to tag. I could probably automate it more, but I'm a control freak. Little discrepancies in the way my music is tagged (eg. 1 vs. 1/15 vs. 01 as track numbers) drive me nuts whereas most people don't even notice. That's just an example. I've...- Gurck

What lossless format do you use? (on your main PC rig)
FLAC. - It's free - No association with Apple - It's widely supported If you want Ipod compatibility, check out rockbox.org. Their firmware makes my Ipod (it was free, I'd never buy one) much easier to use and loadable as a USB storage device, without any silly need for itunes / ephpod /...- Gurck

Buying mp3's from iTunes?
I was under the impression you could choose aac or mp3 from itunes, I never heard of them using m4a. Pardon my ignorance if I'm wrong, I don't buy Apple products. M4a is not exclusive to itunes / ipod, it's just a codec like any other (eg. mp3, ogg/vorbis, flac, etc.). It's certainly less... -
What's so good about metal?
I'm in the same boat, most modern metal to me sounds very mechanical, without much soul. A few hard bands I do like are Amon Amarth and Opeth, and of course Dream Theater and Tool - but some might consider those two to be rock rather than metal. People will explain their own personal...
