Apex Peak/Volcano Review
Currently I find the Sylvania 6SN7W metal base to be the most amazing tube, with great detail to the base, powerful impact in the highs. I have a Mullard CV181 on it's way currently. The Schitt Yggy sounds great with it. I actually bought this because of Skylabs review on it. I also got a...- bearington

Apex Peak/Volcano Review
The Wuss, Depending on where a tube is being used, will depend on if Microphonic is an issue. In the A/P/V the tube is in the Preamp and that is when Microphonics are the most sensitive. Complin, I want one, but they are hard to find, balanced and without being Microphonic. This is what I...- bearington

Apex Peak/Volcano Review
I plan on buying a Brimar, but can't find a Mullard for a reasonable price. The CBC/Hytron is actually very good, it is very much like the Sylvania but much cleaner at the high frequencies.- bearington

Apex Peak/Volcano Review
I did, The CBS/Hytron 5962 is a vintage tube I am using currently. So is the Sylvania 6SN7GTB, Peter sent me. The Brimar and Mullard tubes have a nice darkness to them, but can be difficult to find one that isn't microphonic at a reasonable price.- bearington

Apex Peak/Volcano Review
My Apex Peak Volcano just came in, with an Electro-Harmonix tube, used as a substitute for the Tung Sol. I purchased the Sophia tube also, as to have a better tube to start off with. Sadly that tube never came in. Nor was I informed. This Electro-Harmonix tube has to be the most Microphonic...- bearington

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
Then the db3 file will get corrupt and I would have to copy a back up over the new one and reboot, also the scan takes 30 min or more, do to my large library. I would rather pull the SD cards.- bearington

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

HD800 replacement cable: ALO Reference 8 or SAA Endorphin?
I have not had the pleasure of hearing the AOL cables, for the HD800. I did purchase the E-Series unbalanced cables. I took a chance, for all the great things I heard. AOL or SAA. James is overloaded with work and has a huge back order, but patience, paid off. Wow! The Frequency response... -
B&W C5 quick review
I travel a lot, enough to use flyer and hotel points to acquire my HD800 (I added SAA cables and the Anaxilus mod) and HD650. When I fly, I usually use my ER4s, with custom molds on either an imod iPod tethered to a 2stepdance amp or a modded A&K 100 with same amp. The ER4s need a good amp and...- bearington

Volumio: the free hi-fi linux distribution
I just received my CuBOX-i4pro. Volumio install had some issue, the wifi card didn't have a driver. I found an image with the driver. My USB CM6631A card didn't work, until I fixed the ALSA conf. Works great and sound wonderful. Music libraries are accessed via a samba share. Only two...- bearington

Volumio: the free hi-fi linux distribution
Using the raspberry pi, over clocked to 900Mhz and getting good results with 192Mhz sample rates. Exfat 500GB USB drive. I added Fuse ExFat driver. This is a really cool headphone setup that lets me listen to music, and control it all via my iPad. More interestingly I operate the Raspberrypi...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
I actually have that little amp with me on the road. I carry a Corda 2Stepdance with me and it is my favorite potable amp. The HD800 sounds good with everything. This little tube amp was just a toy to play with. The AD797AR and my APEX tube sounded best, with a clean bias setting. I find the...- bearington

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
I use ER4S with custom molds, Jan Meir Corda 2Stepdance, modded A&K100 or an imod 5.5 gen ipod. I love these IEMs, I travel a lot and rather not fly without them. Good bye screaming kids, talkative passengers and annoying others, no need for noise reduction distortion. I just insert these...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
I did a couple of other things, kind of quickly. The cool part about this little tube amp is that I can open it, solder up some parts and close it very quickly. I added Bypass caps to the Coupling caps, and to all the electrolytic capacitors near and behind the tube, on the bottom of the...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
I have those adapters but they will not fit. I am using a SOIC-8 soldered to the top and bottom, http://cimarrontechnology.com/so8to8-pindipadapterpn970601-3.aspx has them already made, or you can make your own. The pots settings I used was based on the opamp I used, I put my meter between...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
K7 I wouldn't invest any money into it either, but the parts were sitting in boxes collecting dust, they were left overs from playing with a DAC. It took only a few min of work for me. When I get a chance I will post a pic, but I have to work today ;-)- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
I tried that and a brown dog adapter with two LME49990s. Currently using two AD797AR on a brown dog adapter, with a mullard 12AU7 tube. Using a 2.5 amp ps, added chassis gnd. I had to unsolder the bridge to make the pins for a jumper viable. The unit I had was over modulating, so I lowered the...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
Listening as I was burring the Muse TU-20, I changed the op amp again to a Dual Brown dog adapter with two LME49990. I adjusted the bios, by setting the volume to max, with a 32 ohm load. Played a 1khz -26dB sign wave. Then adjusted both channel outputs at the op amps to 6.30 Vdc. Sounds good...- bearington

Muse TU-20 tube amp, anyone try this little cutie
I opened the box, the power supply was European two pin 240vac. I used one of my own PSs. The op amp is a dual 5532p, that has to go. The tube power selector on the board was soldered for the EH6922, cut that so I can roll 12AU7 tubes too, I have a few of them. Leaving the original tube and...- bearington

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I installed 1.33 firmware, flew home on a 6.5 hour flight. I was listening to HD music for 6 hours. The battery life was better then my flight out, but my AK100 did get warm too. I noticed that the two 64Gb and the 32Gb storage uploaded music faster and library scan is much faster. Anyone read 6...- bearington

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I still might bypass the resistor myself. I just haven't decided what I want to do with it, running a wire from the amps transistors output to the output jack, will not take much for me. I do this kind of work for a living on computers all the time. I have the amp... so, but the idea of only...- bearington

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
Line out is a standard, the specified amplitude of an audio signal used to transmit analog sound between audio components, many DACs need to not only be amplified but some even DC filtering. It doesn't mean bypassing an amp section. Consumer audio is usually a tad more then 2V peak amplitude...- bearington

Gintaris, Quite a few, but then Skylab did a bunch of reviews head-fi too. He gave it a good review for a solid state portable amp.
