AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
...is exaggerated nor recessed while also having lower distortion than the Nighthawk. That's what a high end headphone should do. If it's rolled to **** and exaggerated in the treble than no, it's not high end. Here's an example, people go on about the Fostex TH900, it's bass is ridiculous...- ChookJones1987

I actually am a fan of the old D5000, D7000 my problem isn't with the Bio drivers it's with the tuning. The TH900 is tuned too unnatural, wonky it's bright just for the sake trying to extract detail. It performs poorly here. Honestly it makes me wonder if people on here actually play intruments...- ChookJones1987

The TH900 has a massive hole in its mids, messed up treble stupid bass elevation it's absolutely awful for the price, the NH is a better headphone than the TH900 and it's not even close. That's even off the black window and bimby.- ChookJones1987

Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread
Sounds like you've gotten an older LCD-2 that had fazors fitted. I personally think it was a bad idea because of the driver failing issues I'd only really get an Audeze with a secure warranty. Alos the current fazors (November 2015) Sound better than the first batch of fazors, the first...- ChookJones1987

he-400s compared with hd650 and pm3
The 400s is an entry level headphone it really doesn't compare to the 650. The 650 with a good source easily competes with higher end gear like the Hifiman X LCD-3's etc.- ChookJones1987

People who don't like the HD600
Sorry I meant HEX. I always type them the wrong way around. The HEK I thought did a bit better than the 650. I still thought the 650 performed better in some areas but overall the HEK was a monster, very good headphone. The problem with "expensive" DACs is it's not always about the price...- ChookJones1987

People who don't like the HD600
Completely disagree, The HEK actually sounding less resolving than the 650 from a Gumby and Eddie Current. I thought the HEK had better bass texture, even to a modden HD650 but the low mid to the treble was all 650 especially when it comes to plankton.- ChookJones1987

People who don't like the HD600
Well the most natural headphones lean towards to warmer end, cold sounding is a result of upper mid and treble exaggerations over the rest of the response which isn't natural. The 650 for example has a complete smooth response, no peak just a gentle roll off, no rapid drop offs and they sound...- ChookJones1987

People who don't like the HD600
The Chord Hugo is an absolute joke for the price. Taurus is a good amp. I even prefer the Mojo to the Hugo. Hugo is a screechy, mess, yes it's spacious sounding at the expense of fullness and musicality. Well the 800s is a superior driver so yes it's going to sound better when it's comes to...- ChookJones1987

People who don't like the HD600
The HD600/650 beat up most of the so called flagsips today like the Ether when your amp them with something very good like the Crack on a budget or something like the Eddie Current selection. On lesser equipment they sound very good but they are amazing on better equipment especially in...- ChookJones1987

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
Depends on your budget. Maybe the 650? It has some of the best micro detail and resolution I've heard out of good amps. Vocals are it's strong suit, slightly prefer the 650's vocals to my LCD-2's. The only issue with the 650 is it has higher distortion in the lower bass and it can be a flip...- ChookJones1987

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
From what I've gathered it doesn't really have an amp in the traditional sense. If you hold the volumes buttons with the power button when you turn it on you should be able to use it as a DAC only. There's no double amping with the Mojo. I use the some of my valve amp this way and it sounds...- ChookJones1987

What about the Mojo as a DAC do you not like it over your Modi etc? I think the Mojo is ok, but overrated but it's one of the few DACS out there that lean to the warmer side.- ChookJones1987

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I disagree the Vali 2 sounds very tubey but not in the sense that it's gooey like the Chinese brands. It's natural but has a slightly slower decay giving it a nice lush feeling but it's done correctly by having fantastic resolution.- ChookJones1987

If you ventured outside of headfi you'd find quite a lot of comments. My ears are actually fine, I can resolve difference in headphones FR. AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
Yes my ears, which pick out the differences between a rough treble or a smooth treble and not good.... No the Nighthawk do not respond to burn in. It's simply our ears adjusting to the sound. The Nighthawks have a reverby bloom that you need to hear past, this takes a...- ChookJones1987

Ether you gear is gooey or your ears are not good at distinguishing the differences because the roughness in this treble is pretty obvious. The cups are very reverby and the bass does mask this but anyone with a good ear will be able to hear it.- ChookJones1987

I find the mids too recessed for rock and especially for vocal tracks. I find the Nighthawk difficult to place because it really lacks in definition and cohesiveness but it does plankton quite well and has nice Bio cellulose bass!- ChookJones1987
