Clip+ Mod for More Bass Control and More Inner Detail
One thing I can add is that I bent the jack's solder tabs DOWN so that they would get a "springlike" pressure against the PCB's solder pads to ensure direct mechanical connection (as per proper soldering procedure). This alone may be what I am hearing. When I pulled the jack off, the tabs...- Matt

Yeah, sounds stupid I know. And my apologies for being snarky, but the only thing I can tell you for sure is that the joints on mine were almost "thirsty" for solder and cracked right off with relatively minor torque on them...NOT normal (or at least not a quality joint by any measure). The...- Matt

Lol yeah bro you're qualified to facepalm because you've owned a Sansa and some SR-60's...I guess I am the one who is totally outclassed and underexperienced when it comes to audiophilia here. Nice.- Matt

...the solder and replacing with higher quality Kester silver solder, etc. To be honest, I just used some RatShack thick-strand convention crap that I had, but I am telling you the sound was noticeably better. I will not say (what I want to say) that it "exploded," but draw your own...- Matt

Clip+ Mod for More Bass Control and More Inner Detail
Gentlemen, Wow...have not been on here for a long, long time, probably five or six years. Quick "credits": I used to own a crapload of cans, starting with Grado SR-80s, Audio-Technica Hokkaido "woodies" (forget the model number), through Sennheiser HD-600's, Etymotic ER-4P's, Grado RS-1's...- Matt

A great tipfor you Stax SR202/303 and 404 owners
...I dunno much about the power supply particulars, but after this: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...threadid=42560 (unbelievably good difference for small change) I certainly believe it is quite probable that a better PS will make the whole fuggin' amp better. Antness says it's...- Matt

A great tipfor you Stax SR202/303 and 404 owners
Gee, I really hate to rub it in, but I purchased my pair from AudioCubes a few months ago and even though I haven't been able to use them (*still* waiting for KGSS from Antness, have no other amp), one of the best features of these "new" 404's is that they are absolutely squeak-free! Stax has...- Matt

DIY Creek power supply?
...on this thing to say that after having listened to it for a while now, it is truly an insanely worthy upgrade. In fact, if you're buying or have bought a Creek phono preamp or headphone amp (that doesn't already have the OBH-2), just go get one now! The headphone amp part has been...- Matt

Creek OBH-11 Test Results (OBH-1 vs. Elpac)
...Tangent, Fewtch, others and I had a whole thing on the WM-080 with the OBH-8 in the Do-It-Yourself forum where Tangent specifically said to go for the WM-080, as it is a linear (non-switching) regulated power supply, therefore less noisy. There are other 24V Elpacs which have higher mA...- Matt

Mix-in for work headset
Hello, all. I KNOW (!) this is only somewhat head-fi oriented, but think of this as helping a fellow listen to good jazz at work where he otherwise could not... I have a plantronics headset and a problem! I need someone with some EE or general tinkering background to help me out, if...- Matt

Reccomendations for a college student
Dude -- ur in college. Get some Grado SR-60's and be done with it. I used to have Omega II's and a KGSS and in many ways I liked these just as much, even unamped. U can save $20 more, man...do the ramen noodles thing for a week. U da man.- Matt

Sonic Impact from Sonic Impact
The Fostex FE206E enclosures are the "secret" ones from oldhifi.com which I got free with the purchase of the drivers. The big secret? 10" x 10" x 36" (external dimensions) with 3/4" material. You put a porthole in front of a certain size a certain distance from the base, using that 3/4"...- Matt

Sonic Impact from Sonic Impact
For some reason, a few Sonic Impact T-amps showed up on the SI-5.com site last week at $39, and knowing the current short supply, I bit. Ended up being $45 shipped (vs. say $30 shipped from a $20 discounter). The nice thing is that for the extra $15, I got those cardboard SoundPax speakers and a...- Matt

DIY speaker amp
Hum-diddly-dum...yeah, I am interested in a non-headphone amp. This probably would belong in off-topic, but that's gone now. What I am looking for is this: I have a pair of Linn 5110 wall-mounted speakers. I would like either a ready-made OR kit amp (tube, solid state, whatever, doesn't...- Matt

Decent DIY input switch design?
What is the difference between "shorting" and "non-shorting" switch? It looks like the four pole/five position switches are "shorting," vs. the 4 pole 3 positions which can be non-shorting. Any idea what is best? - Matt- Matt

Decent DIY input switch design?
Of the given examples (C&K, Elma, Grayhill, Alpha), what is the best price/performance point? If there is going to be crosstalk on the Alpha, forget about it! Also, please tell me where to buy the recommended switch for the best price, if you know off the top of your head. I honestly don't...- Matt

Decent DIY input switch design?
Actually, what I plan to do (oh yeah, thanks for the info so far!) is hardwire cat5 to the unit's end, then do custom ends where I must (the tt will take RCA, the piano will take mono 1/4" plugs, the CDP will take RCA and the computer will be miniplug. This way, with a few extra solder joints, I...- Matt

Decent DIY input switch design?
Hello, all. I am interested in building an input switcher. I need at least four stereo inputs and would prefer a high-value but not high-cost solution for this. Small is best, so long as it doesn't interfere w/sound quality. I will be switching between turntable, CDP, digital piano and...- Matt

Atkins/Low Carbohydrate Diets
Every damned sugar alcohols package I've read (and eaten the contents of) has said "sensitive individuals may experience a laxative effect." Well, I must be sensitive because EVERY DAMNED TIME I have serious "blowouts." As far as the diet, I did S. Beach and went from 194 to 174 and have kept...- Matt

HOLY SHAZBOT: Bogdan Princess
...have incredible rhythm and pace that the R10's can't generally touch. Plus they have more overall detail, if you ask me. Finally, the R10's are *not* (from what I heard) nearly as good with rock/disco-type music, which constitutes a modest but important part of my listening diet. So, R10's... -
HOLY SHAZBOT: Bogdan Princess
I can't believe I am saying this, but everything in my rig has just *gelled* awesomely. I have FINALLY gotten my dream rig. I am feeling SOOOOOOO spoiled right now. Like as if I won $5000 or something sweet like that. Unbelievable. Now, I don't want to say that the Bogdans were the... -
HOLY SHAZBOT: Bogdan Princess
Just got a 0.75 meter pair of the "new" Bogdan Princess IC's, upgrading from my old Magwire Nakeds for my Music Hall MMF-5 turntable>Bottlehead Seduction phono preamp>KGSS>Omega II's. The difference is huge. REAL music is flowing through, very tonally balanced. Real rhythm and pace, nothing...- Matt
