Modded the HiFiMAN headband of woe to be super comfortable now
This is how it should have been from factory IMO. I used those buttons you apply to clothes/bags etc from Amazon, really cheap, and with some strong epoxy to attach one side of the button to each headband end. Then affixed the other part of the buttons to each headband strap. Quick...- mrk

A lot has changed since my last post in this thread. HD650 gone, replaced with HiFiMan Ananda Nano, then got the HD660 S2 to compare agianst and had the HiFiMan Sundara too, returned all but the Nano as they are superb.... NAD amp gone, got a Fiio K7, then returned it, retained my Topping MX3s...- mrk

Does anybody know the impedance rating for the headphones out on the NAD D7050?
Hi, I have the 7050 for desktop and it powers through driving speakers and headphones fine. But recently I upgraded to HD650s and I've been told the 650s scale so well with more powerful amplification. I've been eyeing up the Schiit Valhalla 2 but I wanted to know the power output...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
I've got a pair of HD650s coming today that I will compare against the modded K7XX. Really a fan of my pair now after bass port modding them and removing the foam donuts. Through the NAD amp they truly come alive. But the main gripe with them is the build quality. When I move my head they...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Anyone who has used these with the inner foam donut rings removed, noticed any difference? The outer cap foam pieces still installed of course. I'm dicing between them on and off and it's very hard to notice the difference, but if my ears are not deceiving me, the donuts off = slightly more...- mrk

NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S
All points come to one conclusion in my mind then, to keep the K7XX and do a full on upgrade! It's not completely necessary to have 2 cans, but it would be nice. I guess then the K7XX can become the 2nd pair for dossing about with around the house (and for games), and the true upgrades for the...- mrk

NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S
Hmm interesting, thanks for this! It seems like it's much of a muchness and boils down to preference then! I really like the K7XX soundstage and high end detail - My ones are port modded for increased sub-bass. Not noticed any harshness at all but I use a NAD amp and in typical NAD...- mrk

NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S
Would the 400s be an upgrade over the AKG K7XX? I really like the XX sound, but am interested in having a 2nd pair of cans and have never owned Planar ones before. I'm reading great things about the "Planar Sound" and it's mighty tempting. My amp is a NAD D 7050 btw. I would of course do...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
There's a piece of foam between the vent grill and the cup openings in that chamber anyway, so even if the cable being thicker makes sound bounce less effectively inside there, the foam absorbs it all anyway! Honestly it won't make one bit difference, it's such a small length of cable that...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Just done the one side for now as I checked the other can and that side has extra cabling for the cable socket and the inside cable has lots of slack. I tested out the sound though and honestly it's hard to tell if there is any difference. I used speaker cable for the faulty side and the...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Fixed my K7XX! Not heard back from Massdrop still, so got fed up and decided to pop the covers off and have a look. As you can see, the red cable solder has come off, it's a weak application of solder too, so with daily use the cup moving on the hinge has loosened the cable off...- mrk

I had the Q701 for a year and tried the K712 pads on them - I wasn't a fan of that combo as the Q701 pads are directional and channel the sound a specific way giving them a nice side stage. The K712 pads on them centralised the soundstage and it all felt too close together. The K7XX is the best...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
So I bought mine on 2nd December last year and today they have failed. The right can won't play audio unless I hold the hinge at an angle, so a dodgy internal cable in the headband. So how does support work as I'm in the UK? AKG UK do not recognise the K7XX as a valid product they deal with...- mrk

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
I have owned both Q701 and K7XX both port modded and un-modded and i can tell you the K7XX is a more laid back and enjoyable headphone out of the box than both Q701 formats. The Q701 is a bit brighter and the soundstage is a little tighter but that is largely down to the earpads and the...- mrk

No different to stock cable. I don't expect any SQ differences in cables of such a short length anyway, it's a cable :p I just wanted something shorter and lighter as the stock cable is heavy and long and I can feel it moving my head around!- mrk
