Looking for budget bookshelf speakers + power amp
Quote: I find a lot of monitors are overpriced, but there are some great deals and I think you get better value for your money. I also like to use an EQ to colour the sound rather than have the speakers do it. I can't understand what you dislike about active speakers there are some... -
Don't get why "Audiophile" USB Cable would improve sound quality
Quote: There is no way you can hear the difference between usb ports. Also unless a usb source is broken all dacs will work perfectly with them. I don't understand why people seem to think that usb cables/ports would effect the bass or soundstage. It is undeniable that usb sends...- jackmccabe

A Question For All Subjectivists - Not a troll/trap/rant...
I voted differences are of a nature not described above. I know exactly why I hear differences, because I am tricked into imagining them due bias , visual cues, hype, etc. There is even evidence to support why I hear the differences -

headphones for $200 canadian that are good for heavy metal and are polite to bad recordings (sorry about asking a new recommendations thread i figured i could get more answers this way)?
Quote: Why, do you like the hd800 for metal? I found them too bright and the soundstage was too large for metal.- jackmccabe

Pictures Of Your Portable Rig (part XV)
Quote: No No I used to use an iriver h140 (160gb flac) with an ibasso db2 + pb2 and jh13 but I found it provided very little improvement over an unamped sansa fuze. I also hated the issues with charging everything, weight and size, it just felt really pointless and I now use a...- jackmccabe

headphones for $200 canadian that are good for heavy metal and are polite to bad recordings (sorry about asking a new recommendations thread i figured i could get more answers this way)?
Quote: The ad900s are definitely better, they have much better sound staging and seem faster and more transparent. They are how ever brighter than the hd25s. The comfort is also much better on the ad900s although they provide no isolation. I actually found both of them brighter than...- jackmccabe

headphones for $200 canadian that are good for heavy metal and are polite to bad recordings (sorry about asking a new recommendations thread i figured i could get more answers this way)?
Quote: What? I found the ad700's excellent for metal, they have a nice large soundstage and have nice forward mids. They also have excellent clarity which I found excellent for metal. Also by the way the ad900s are fairly bright, so if you find your srh840s too bright the ad900s may...- jackmccabe

Why do expensier headphones generally get brighter and more laid-back?
Quote: I completely agree, but the hd800s aren't brighter than most other phones e.g. dt880, dt990, pretty much any grados, etc . The only thing that makes people think the hd800s are bright is the treble peak. Loads of headphones have treble peaks that are much larger the hd800s is...- jackmccabe

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
Quote: I wouldn't bother it works out way more expensive. The 2 channel beta22 is excellent and you are missing out on nothing. When I had mine I had it wired so I could have both 2 channel and balanced output and I used the 2 channel most of the time because it was quieter, meaning I...- jackmccabe

Why do expensier headphones generally get brighter and more laid-back?
Quote: I haven't personally heard them but I know a few people who have heard it and they said they was fairly neutral. Looks pretty neutral to me and also sounded pretty neutral. There is that rather annoying peak but I still wouldn't call them bright.- jackmccabe

Don't get why "Audiophile" RCA Cable would improve sound quality
Currently there is no evidence to support the idea that cables make an audible difference. So I cannot understand why this argument continues Are people really that stubborn, ignorant and arrogant that they will argue for something that they can provide no evidence for. There is loads of...- jackmccabe

Improving my system: soundcard for Adam A3Xs and headphones?
I suggest you get some cheap monitor stands. They will raise the speakers up to the correct level and should improve the sound as the desk will no longer vibrate and produce unwanted noise. Of course you could always upgrade to some a5x's or a7x's.- jackmccabe

Looking for budget bookshelf speakers + power amp
Studio stuff provides far better value equipment than the audiophile market, in which you mostly pay for the shiny finish and status that comes with it. I would definitely go with active speakers because they are much more simplistic and are generally better value. I have also found that... -
Why do expensier headphones generally get brighter and more laid-back?
I have no idea what you are basing this conclusion on. most high-end cans are not bright but neutral or dark: R10, L3000, HE-500, LCD-2, Stax O2, Stax 007, Stax 009 There are of course many high-end headphones that are fairly bright but not excessively : T1, HE90, HE60, HD800 (arguable) ...- jackmccabe

LCD-2, LCD-3, Owners and the Music They Love...
Thanks, much appreciated. I think I will try the d7000 or la7000 some time soon, but currently I am enjoying my lcd-2's with everything from Miles Davis to Necrophagist. I really think the lcd-2's are one of the best all rounders with their extremely flat mids and bass.- jackmccabe
