Open DIY Headphone Thread.
Currently, I am looking for a functional, strong headband for DIY headphones and there are three ideas I am interested in pursuing further. My first idea is to go for the AKG style headband, and 3D print a jig I can use to bend a couple wires to a specific shape, cover them with a sheathing...- jason41987

Open DIY Headphone Thread.
I decided to make this thread for anyone wanting to discuss any ideas, projects, thoughts, questions, etc on making DIY headphones. To share ideas, brainstorm, or collaborate on some ideas. The "open" aspect is it's free for anyone to participate, ask questions, or give advice, or if you want...- jason41987

Wanting to make an earpad adapter for Beyerdynamic DTs
Well, I already put some 3D printed oval shaped rings inside the pads and then attached them to the headphone. They fit over the headphones even with the ring inside them. Basically a 100x120mm oval. My DT770s now have oval pads on them that will hold the oval shape. They're tight enough...- jason41987

Tofty's DIY Headphones - 3D Printed
For 3D printing, I think the more joints and hinges you have in it, the more likely one of those would break. So for that, I think going with an internal suspension strap for adjustability, like AKG uses, would be better for the long term. For the clamping pressure itself, it may be possible...- jason41987

Wanting to make an earpad adapter for Beyerdynamic DTs
So, I really like the sound of these Beyerdynamics now that I've owned them up a lot with some less sealing velour pads. But the comfort could be improved a bit. Stock pads sit on my earlobes, the ones I have on now are HM5 style and are a bit loose top to bottom. So I am thinking of either...- jason41987

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
Cool, so I'm not just imagining that I notice this improvement (towards my preferences) in the frequency response of a bass heavy headphone using velour pads.- jason41987

Tofty's DIY Headphones - 3D Printed
What if the headband was inflexible, but there was a hinge before the yoke (similar to what an M50X has), and there was some kind of metal spring used to keep inward tension on them to apply clamp? Like a torsion spring, or some elastic on the inside surface. I wonder if a suspension strap...- jason41987

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
I am curious. How many of you put open velour pads on closed back headphones? I did it with a cheap pair of closed headphones I had and really liked the reduced bass and flatter sound it offered. Then when I got the DT770s I am using now, it too had too much base for my liking, so I put some...- jason41987

Tofty's DIY Headphones - 3D Printed
I really like seeing projects like this. It would be cool to get more people into this and maybe open source some tested materials, in fills, geometry, baffling, damping, pad types and drivers to come up with some some valid DIY headphone solutions. My thoughts on this are that the headband is...- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
Trying out some different pads I had, I found the velour ones that were on my SHP9500s did a lot of positives. IMO, it tuned up the bass and treble in a way that seems to boost the mids significantly, I like it a lot now without EQ. It sounds a lot more neutral now to me. The penalty for it...- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
So, I got the DT770s in the mail today and I am trying out now. My first impressions... I really thought the cups were larger. The pads go over my earlobes. While most headphones I have with oval pads may be just a tad shorter front to back, they're a lot taller top to bottom and IMO a much...- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
It would also seem at some point in the not-so-distant past, Sony began putting the same drivers into both. So the new MDRV6 probably wouldn't be much different than the MDR7506 anyway. I was going to order the MDR7506, but I really think I am going to have a problem with comfort with them...- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
And does the MDR7506 do anything better than the 770s? Also, MDRV6 is discontinued, new ones are up to close to $300 now. I don't think they're worth it at that price point.- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
There are a few things I do like about the MDR7506 over the HD280, and that's that it looks more easily repairable. Easier to open up to get to the wiring, easier to do a cable replacement, to repair the band, change padding on the band, etc. But the long term comfort is of concern. The pads...- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
Portability isn't important at all. How neutral are DT770s? Compared to the more standard headphones for this task like HD280 and MDR7506, or even others like the M40X, or MT5s?- jason41987

Looking for mixing/working headphones around $100
I am looking for some recording/mixing headphones around the $100 price point. I am looking for closed backs with good isolation, neutral frequency response, good build quality / easily repairable/moddable, preferably higher than 32ohms (since 32ohm headphones tend to go from silent to ear rape...- jason41987

Scarlet Solo as an all-in-one PC audio solution?
So, I tested the interface out as a DAC. I set the output to 32-bit 192khz matching the Khadas Tone Board and had the same music outputting to both devices at the same time, then spent some time switching back and forth. I really couldn't hear a difference at all, plus the audio interface gets...- jason41987

Scarlet Solo as an all-in-one PC audio solution?
I bought an interface, not the Solo, but something different that has a better quality DAC and much better stereo separation on the balanced outputs. That's something I have a question about. With an adapter, or new cable, can balanced headphones be plugged directly into the balanced outputs...- jason41987

Scarlet Solo as an all-in-one PC audio solution?
Judging from the one you sent, and finding the article for the Scarlett 2i2 which uses the same internals as the Solo that I have an interest in, the results of the DAC look to be pretty good actually. It would seem these devices are more than capable of serving as a quality DAC. You may need...- jason41987

Scarlet Solo as an all-in-one PC audio solution?
My current PC audio setup is a Khadas Tone Board DAC which runs into an SMSL SAP-II headphone amp, and a Samson Q2U microphone. However the USB port on the Q2U microphone broke, so it's currently an XLR-only mic. However I do not have an XLR interface. I have contacted the manufacturer about...- jason41987

Tin T2s or T2 Pro?
Seems the reviews for the upper mids where a lot of the music I listen to tends to be at are actually quite poor on the Pros, resulting in excessive sibilance. So I'd probably just get the regular T2s. I'll check out those links though. I just want to find something that doesn't scoop out...- jason41987

Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread
So, I took a chance on some pads that not a lot of people seem to have experience with, posted link below. I got them and installed them with the modhouse 3D printed rings which I am glad I did because it just makes the pads fit a lot nicer. Umm, I like them, I think they sound better than the...- jason41987
