Steven Wilson — The Raven That Refused To Sing (and Other Stories)
This album is really good. SQ is by far the best I've heard in a long time. -

Foobar2000 Dolby Headphone config - Comment & discuss!
I got the updated version and noticed Replaygain is on. Is there any reason for this? I'm not entirely sure what it does, or how it affects the sound, but on certain albums where the album gain is -8 db or so I have to crank the volume on my amp all the way up.- JackeShan

How do/can DACs and amps change sound signature?
Amplifiers should amplify the sound, but it's a fact that different DACs and amplifiers may sound different than others, not because of "magic" or that i.e tubes get hot and glow.- JackeShan

What you should do is to position them naturally, nothing extreme, you don't have to sit "perfectly still" at all. I think it is best explained here what I mean, but I'm not sure if this is what SIDWULF is talking about: http://www.head-fi.org/a/ultrasone-owner-s-guide-the-missing-manual- JackeShan

Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread
I subtract the frequencies between 120-500 hz and 8k-16k hz just a tiny bit, (-1db to -3db). This gives the highs a bit more warmth, more engaging mids and fuller low end.- JackeShan

Closed cans heavy in the bass
Your description of Pro 900 & D600 is pretty much exactly how I experience Pro 900 & D5000. Pro 900 really do take some time to grow into. With D5000 I loved them straight away. With Pro 900 I liked them at first but after much more listening I liked them a lot more, in some ways more than...- JackeShan

Closed cans heavy in the bass
Denon D5000 (if you can find them now) and Pro 900 works well with the genres you listed. I imagine Sig Pro and D7000 would be great as well, although the Sig Pro are more refined and neutral sounding than the Pro 900.- JackeShan

Boosting bass with EQ
Yes, cut the frequencies rather than boosting them. If I'm not completely wrong here you'll get exactly the same results, minus the distortion that might come with the boosting.- JackeShan

Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread
Damn guys. I have to share this, although you probably don't share this particular issue that I just "figured out". Ever since I got these headphones I have always heard a kind of imbalance, especially in the very low frequencies. I heard the bass a lot louder in my left cup, which got me...- JackeShan

I'm not talking about XB 1000. Although, I wouldn't agree it has better control than Pro 900. XB 1000 has more sub-bass quantity, but Pro 900 has great bass control, less sub-bass and excellent mid bass.- JackeShan

The point was, ( which I pointed out), if you purely want boomy undefined bass, go with any cheap headphone, as most can achieve that purpose. Either you like the Pro 900 straight away or you don't. Some people like them even more the more you use them.- JackeShan

Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread
Pro 900's are headphones you have to get used to. Once your brain "burns-in" and get used to how they sound, you'll like them even more. That was my experience when I first got them. But keep in mind that it's not really about head rattling bass, but a mix of great quality & quantity. If you...- JackeShan

Have you been trying different positions some more? The sound changes a bit depending on how you wear them. By pushing them forward I seem to get more bloated bass, and pushing them too far back they get too harsh. Keeping them "in-between" I get the best results.- JackeShan

Well, part of the different opinions is that the gears we're using are different. I've never tried an E-17 so I might even come to the same conclusion as him there.- JackeShan

The bass is tighter and punchier, not as messy so I would say the quantity stays pretty much the same, but with better quality. The highs seem to open up more to me and isn't as sibilant. But the headphones are just extremely detailed, no matter what you drive them with. (I actually have to eq...- JackeShan

Better control of the low end, it isn't as "bloated". Soundstage is wider and the overall sound is a lot more neutral with this amplifier. It really makes the headphones come alive I must add. The sound DO change quite a bit between different gears. (For anyone not planning on using Pro 900...- JackeShan

I don't have E17 so I can't comment, but on my gear it's night/ day difference between my onboard (Realtek ALC892). I'm also interested in what onboard you have. I have never in my life heard even a decent onboard sound chip.- JackeShan
