USB DAC. Use on Linux? Recent drivers?
Has anyone any idea how to get iBasso's DAC's (like Sidewinder D7) working in Linux? I have foobar running in Wine without issue. But I need Linux itself to detect this 44 to 192 KHz device. How have people who have used Linux longer than I succeeded in getting their USB DAC working...- thelion

My DIY electrostatic headphones
Amazing work that you guys have done! This sounds like a very interesting project. I'm thinking of trying this myself; but I have several questions: 1. Will perfectly circular headphone enclosure work, or is an oval better? Stax uses circles, but they have more holes in the mesh they...- thelion

Do cables "burn in"?
I am a materials scientist, as well as an economist, serving in executive capacity. Hopefully the digression that follows is useful to end this argument. I cannot a priori agree, on the one hand, that changes purely to cable composition or design (assuming you're already using reasonable...- thelion

New DENON "Music Maniac" & "Urban Raver" Lines: D7100, D600, D400 & C300 Impressions Thread
I have several Chinese audio products, and they are very good. The popular stigma is against their products is not reasonable today.. Or for instance, iBasso products, for the electronics? Or how about the hifiman line? Or this. Or the MP4Nation products, e.g., a while back I was using...- thelion

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!
Finally got my HM5 pads arrived after two weeks! Took off the stock Fostex pads and put on the HM5s: large improvement in treble and soundstage, while bass is still muddy in my opinion. I notice some people place the new pads right on top of the old Fostex pads using tape...- thelion

A good 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter?
I agree, I'm sure that is pretty good. Made by Grado, after all. But is there anything better? That's what I'd like to ask opinions about. I'm considering upgrading my cables to something more expensive than stock, for my wooden headphones; the various improved cables floating around... -
A good 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter?
For instance, http://aloaudio.com/grado-mini-adaptor-cable-1-4-inch-to-1-8-inch-plug.html Is that any good? What do people think is best if used with a moderately good cable? Where is the best place to get such adapters?- thelion

Wharfedale DD1s
My friend just this morning offered to send me a not very used Wharfedale DD1s. I have no idea if they are remotely good compared to, e.g., Audio Technica A700, whose wiring I just had to replace? Any more comments after using them for a while, or comparisons with modern phones? Do...- thelion

Convert ALAC to FLAC on Windows PC?
What software works best? Or at least to WAV. Preferably open source. I don't have access to any Macs.Plenty of things convert FLAC to ALAC or back and forth on a MAC, but I don't see anything on a PC.- thelion

Listen to youtube or poweriso, etc., through DAC? Settings in Windows?
Edit: Nevermind. I've forgot temporarily how to set things on Windows XP after using Windows 7 for my audio for a year. Then I remembered... Issue gone. I should probably change the title of this thread, if I could... My only question now is this: the ibasso D7 plays 192 kHz flac...- thelion

How much do electrostatic earspeakers leak?
Ok, got it. In that case, any mods or cover I can make to attach to the other side of the 'stats to diminish what any person 4 ft+ away from me in any direction would hear? Making it a semi-(semi-)-closed? Would such attachments ruin the sound of the 'stats that I hear (by reflecting some...- thelion

How much do electrostatic earspeakers leak?
I understand someone else several feet away can hear them, but it depends on the angle they are to me? Or have I got the totally wrong idea? I'm considering Stax SR-307 as my entry into electrostatic headphones, but I have no idea what kind of leakage there is? It matters, because of...- thelion
