What software works best? Or at least to WAV. Preferably open source.
 
I don't have access to any Macs.Plenty of things convert FLAC to ALAC or back and forth on a MAC, but I don't see anything on a PC.

I use xrecode, more convenient than foobar.
In trial  mode, you have a nag screen at each start, and then you can use it normally.
Otherwise the license is enough cheap.
 
Dbpoweramp was free in old versions...

Just curious, after the 21 day free trial for dbpoweramp, can you uninstall and then just reinstall the program to restart the free trial?
 
I don't have a lot of money right now, and converting FLAC to ALAC is very useful for me, hopefully I'll purchase the full version soon.

xrecode allows conversion from alac for free. Trial = nag screen, that's all, still full features.

I'm not sure why you just didn't use Foobar to do the conversion, it has supported ALAC playback for a while now.

Sure it can.
 
I use it to convert from FLAC to WMA_Lossless or MP3 (lame) all the time.
