I have been switching between them with the sounds control panel...but they don't take effect until i restart. THAT's the problem. I am running windows xp

I have a soundblaster for my desktop speakers and an emu 0404 for headphones. is there a way i can switch between these two soundcards without restarting my computer. its really annoying to have to restart just so i can listen with my headphones. and no im definately not plugging my headphones...

from headphones to card I go: Headphones -> stereo 1/4" headphone jack that splits to Right/Left RCA -> RCA to mono 1/4" Headphone jack adapter -> each R and L analog outputs. It's definately having a problem driving these headphones. I'm fully disappointed.

I am planning on getting an EMU 0404 sound card. If that doesn't suit my needs, then I will begin looking into an amp...but one thing at a time . Vasu, what kind of sound card do you have? I would like to know how these cans develop on your system so I can have something to compare mine to.

wow...we have a burn-in believer. I have listened with these headphones all day (and it hasn't been real pleasant) and they are already noticeably getting better. the bass is getting harder and harder and mids are really coming out more defined.
