If you're on a budget, I find that the signature of the 990 250ohm really runs well of hi-fi/stereo speaker amps, these are available second hand and modern day ones can connect to your computer via an optical cable   it really compliments the low reaching bass at the same time slightly...

The FC range are a great under-rated cans, i bought a pair of FC707s while i was overseas, and i actually prefer these to the M50s, they have a very similar signature to the Shure in-ear 215 and 535s which both cost more than the FCs - they don't have the lingering bass re-verb that sometimes...

the AD900X are a good alternative to the HD600s, similar signatures (sparkling vocals and highs, solid mids and recessed sub-bass)   Personal preference obviously but i think the 900Xs place nicer on the head, as well as the slightly more airy signature making it suitable for acoustic...

Definitely a dedicated headphone amp, if it is for headphone use only - i have a Harman/Kardon AVR and an Aune T1, and the difference is night and day in my opinion -

DT880s are a good candidate, as they provide evidence of sub bass where many headphones in my opinion don't get so low - combined with a great stage they would be my pick - they are also a step above in terms of lightness and comfort
