I am also using a D7000 with a 6.5 to 3.5 converter and it works totally OK. The converter is just from Bestbuy for around $2   So I believe the problem should be in the converter and I suggest you to get a new one.

In my point of view PC is a good Hifi source, but it highly depends on the digital interface and the dac you are using. And the port you're using might affect the sound quality. It is said that Optical/SPDIF and network port are better than USB.

Well in my knowledge when ED8 is designed it has considered to be used portable, so using with an ipod may be acceptable.   But in all it is a head-cup, so working with an amp would help this gear perform much better.

Hi. If I were you, I would consider buying some second-hand products. With around $300 you can get Cambridge Magic Box DAC or PS Audio GCHA. They are much better than the new gears around $300.

it seems as if they only have limited choices of headphones... but might be good for someone who need those gears
