The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

I don't know where else to put this, but some of you might be interested in an Indiegogo project called ii Earphones Snap Strap. Seems like an excellent idea to me.   http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ii-earphones-snap-strap     Mooch

Re: Toslink cables   What's wrong with this: http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=102&cp_id=10229   For shorter ones, $38.00: http://www.sys-concept.com/U-toslink_miniplug.html   There's no quality issue with a digital signal, just with the cable and fittings. $60 for a 20 inch...

Grado SR80i vs Audio Technica ATH-M50

Recommend the Grado 60s. Buy a set of the replacement 80 pads and you'll essentially have both. Since you are just starting some experimentation will be fun. If you listen at full volume or anything close you won't be a Head-Fier past your 40s because you'll need hearing aids. Take it easy on...

    Headphones for college dorm

I haven't read about headphones for quite a while since I'm on an IEM kick, so I don't know what the current thinking is, but you might look at the Beyer DT770 80 ohm version. Excellent isolation.

    Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones

There are a few almost-dead ancient old farts around, but we don't seem to pay as much attention to bass as you youngsters.   Mooch

    Some advice about Grado headphones

Unless your ears are very large the Grado bowls should fit around your ears. With any Grado cushion some claim scratchiness. I've never had a problem, but I always wash mine first in mild soap and water. The Grado 80s come with the bowls and the 60s with the comfies. I tried both with my 60s and...

Blues & Jazz -- Best Headphones?

I'd recommend against the AT AD900 for blues, though they are good for jazz. For blues, i recommend the Grado 225, 325, or RS2.   Mooch

Keepin' it simple, but ripping cd's to Apple Lossless...

I rip to lossless first and then either re-rip or create lossy from that. Afterward I use different playlists to keep them straight so that I can transfer to iPods, etc. Mooch

    Good headphones with no amp

I've had the Senn 580s and the AT AD900s. I listen almost entirely to blues. Neither of those headphones worked for blues. The Grado 225, or even a lower model, will knock your socks off - without an amp. Grados are wonderful for blues! Mooch
