DIY Concern: semiconductors
So, in conclusion...keep transistors in anti-static bags until ready to be soldered. When soldering it is OK to touch the transistor to place it on the board. But it is also possible to ground yourself before doing so...- larry.said

DIY Concern: semiconductors
Hello All! Haven't posted in a long time, but it's great to be back with so many audio enthusiasts. The reason I'm writing today is because I'm concerned about handling semiconductors, specifically transistors. I had bad experiences with my PPAv2 which, I believe, can be linked to the...- larry.said

PPA v2 Problem

PPA v2 Problem
I build the PPA v2 but noticed only after turning it on that I had used an AD843 (not unity gain stables) in the ground channel. Maybe that screwed up the ground channel because now my Q33 (in the buffer section) heats up to the point where I can't even touch it anymore. I replaced all the...- larry.said

K701 thread
If you're looking for a clear reference pair of headphones, this is definitely the way to go. I'm pretty biased though, having only owned a pair of HD280 PROs before the K701s, but I still say these headphones are the clearest most detailed I have heard. You can also get them for around 300USD...- larry.said

Desperate k701 owner need help
The K701s cannot sound muddy, even if you wanted them to. Even with a bad amplifier, you will get a clear sound, just very soft. I used them with a power amp designed to drive speakers with a terrible dedicated phone stage and they still sounded good. Try going to an audio store and test them on...- larry.said

Maxxed WA6 Vs. Balanced
i've heard great things about balanced amps in this forum and most of them are very expensive. The cheapest one I found was the headamp balanced desktop amp for 1k. Here's my question: will a maxed out WA6 SE ever sound as good as a balanced amp, especially one that costs less than the WA6?- larry.said

Size of companies: Ray, Singlepower, Woo etc.
Customer service in smaller companies is exceptionally good. When I e-mail Dr. Lloyd at MAD, he responds in the span of half and hour. Same with Jack at Woo. There is a dedication to quality and service that is very hard to find in bigger commercially driven companies. I ordered an Ear+ and a...- larry.said

2 Pair Of Cans At Once From One Amp?
The funnest thing to do would be to build a Y splitter yourself with a rotary switch which will equalize the input impedance of the two headphones. So lets say your using K701s with SR225, you'd put a 32ohm resistor at the input of the grados so that both will be fed the same current (they are...- larry.said

Anti-Cables Appreciation thread
The theory behind the built is intelligent and precise. I measure shunt capacitance through the wire and it was roughly 10pF, which is extremely low. In terms of sound: very open, great soundstage. Love em! -
Tube Amp for HD650s
Thanks guys, I was leaning more towards the WA6 SE. Just wasn't sure if the upgrades were worthwhile...I guess people really enjoy the difference though.- larry.said

Headroom amps: too pricey?
I have to admit that upgrades do seem appealing simply because the typical audiophile reaction is that price is proportional to quality. This is not necessarily true: expensive chips may sound terrible in certain circuitry while cheap chips can sound magnificent. I guess the one thing you learn...- larry.said
