Should a headphone claiming to be Hi-Res have Hi-Res certification?
No - as has been said, it’s a marketing gimmick.- islewind

emotivas new stealth 8 powered monitors any impressions?
I had a chance to listen to the Stealth 8 and they were very impressive, definitely competitive for near field listening with anything in the same price range.- islewind

Rocky Mountain Audiofest - Denver CO - Oct 12-14th 2012
Glad to make it there even for just a little while. It's amazing to see how much more great equipment is available than there was just a few years ago. It's very nice to see such growth. I also want to recognize Schiit Audio for being one of the few exhibitors to stay open til the end, and to...- islewind

Grado SR80i or Sen HD555
The 414 pads won't likely make the Grado as comfortable as the Sennheiser - but as Greq said, you need to try them for yourself. The 555 is versatile and decent in the response department, but the Grado might be more exciting if you listen to certain genres.- islewind

Fake Grados?
There is nothing to indicate they are not legitimate. Denz and Greq are correct, it wouldn't make much sense for counterfeiters to make faux Grados when Sennheiser, Sony, and Beats have orders of magnitude more demand. On the positive side, perhaps the quality might be improved if some of the...- islewind

Original Sennheiser PX100 would fit the bill unless you need plus-plus bass. Very comfy and nice sound.- islewind

Audio Technica ATH-M50 or Sennheiser HD598?
I personally prefer the 598, but these two phones have very different characters - you really should listen to them yourself. I'd probably pick the M50 if I was focused on harder-driving, more dynamic and robust music, but the 598 for anything more nuanced and definitely for more varied listening.- islewind

Audio Technica ATH M50 - lacking bass...?
The M50 is very solid bass wise. I second the suggestions about program material and amplification.- islewind

Ugrade from AKG K701 to Grado PS 500 or Beyerdynamic T1 ?
Glad you got the 800's. I auditioned them alongside the PS500 and much preferred the Senns overall, though the PS500 shined on certin tracks. I found the 800 smoother, flatter (response wise) and much better down low.- islewind

Closed All Arounders
The Denon HP700 is very good, and a great value, definitely great in the isolation department. But sonically, they are not the equal of the D2000 - less airy, less nuanced, more "flat" midrange. Don't get me wrong - the 700's are very good and worth auditioning, it's just the 2000 eclipses them...- islewind

Homemade Computer Speakers
If you want to use them as computer speakers connected via USB, you'll need a USB DAC, a preamp, and an amp. -
Closed All Arounders
Shure 940, Denon D2000 (though maybe not enough isolation for you) , Beyerdynamic 770 would all be good possibilities for you.- islewind
