To protect the driver from debris, to tame the mid highs and higs (mostly to be able to listen also to not so good masterings without shooting mids and shrill highs) and to be more deep because I could manage to touch the driver grille with my ears.- daivatam

The Dekoni pads arrived. They will fit but not perfectly since they are round...top bottom ok fit ...sides a little to big. They are deeper than original but your ear will touch top part a little. Yes, I see that Focal put an minimal unobtrusive light and I think hard mesh right under metal grille to protect the driver. A hair that manage to go and sit over driver will cause distort this is clear. I purchased the dekoni suede pads I wait for them but only after impulse purchasing I see...- daivatam

Yes also for me the depth of original pads it is to small touching sometimes with the tip of the ear the inside part. Perhaps even the thin cloth net inside them will tame/diffuse a little the highs. Worth trying them.- daivatam

Like could we see the 109 are not completely open ...they had all the back space padded with some thin hard felt like material. Nop, I was done this long ago for a pair of akg 712 pro, based on modders experimenting...that headphone being popular benefit for a lot of tricks tested in time, this was one of them. This is how marshall is doing them.- daivatam

Some experimenting :) This work well...increased bass and tamed highs, but they still have all sound and clarity, they are more forgiving to ears now. The material it is a hard felt similar to the filters that marshal provide with some of their headphones, they affect just the end of high...- daivatam

Nothing complicated...the mechanism consist of 2 plastic ends and between them a piece of elastic, remove 2 screws from one side of the metal piece that fix the headband, slide out the elastic part with their plastic parts out of headband, unravel the sewing of the elastic short it and sew...- daivatam
