New 990 Pro owner here. I traded my 770's for a pair of 990 Pro's. Very comfy headphone. 

I am running my 990's on a O2 combo. I have the 1X/2.5X gain configuration and listen to the 990's with 1X gain, and a the comfortable listening level is about 40% on the pot.

I'll trade you my DT-770 Pro 80s :)

It should be noted also that the designer of "The Wire" is releasing some new amp versions and possibly a dac on the DIY audio site.
