from p. 2 of the 2541 user manual: "The dac2541 R-2R DAC circuit is fully isolated from the noisy computer USB interface and the SPDIF inputs are also all transformer isolated" So you're good with either USB or AES - this is the only dac I'm aware of that has isolated SPDIF inputs...

It's best to leave R2R dacs on 24/7 because the resistors need time to stabilize at their operating temperature in order for the dac to sound its best.

I've reverted to Red OS 2024.01.24 and currently stream music via HQ Player or Audirvana 3.5 - I only received the Red (and Spring 3) this week but so far both upsampled and bitperfect music sound amazing! I can't A/B the different OS's so really can't comment on sound differences, if any.

A quick updated for those interested, the 2022.12.28 Red OS image mentioned earlier in this thread will load on my 2401 Red and Roon functionality is there. update to 2023.03.10 = Roon yes update to 2023.03.27 = Roon yes update to 2023.04.15 = Roon yes ...most have followed this thread longer...

Using the current “Red OS”, the Red isn’t visible in Roon as a Roon endpoint. (HQP works and it’s seen as an NAA). Agreed, there’s really no issue here and one can install another OS that works with Roon.
