  Can IEMatch convert TRRS balanced into SE mode? At present, I am using HD650 with custom cable terminating 3.5mm TRRS balanced and if I need to run SE then I need to change to normal cable terminating TRS jack which is a hassle. Not sure if this can help converting BAL to SE just flicking of a switch.

Yep, can be used as an adapter for SE source with 3.5 TRRS terminated cable. Not the other way around though.

Great to know. If it is possible, then it would save hassle changing cables depends on source. Just stick to Balanced cable and use IEMatch when SE source is needed to connected. :)

  Did you tried this? Is there any information in the iFi user manual?

http://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/data/manual/iEMatch-Manual.pdf

Taken from manual:

"Tip: There is no need to switch to SE to use a single-ended Headphone with a TRS (3-connection) plug, conversion to single-ended is automatic, the switch can be set to BAL or SE with no ill effect. If using a balanced headphone with TRRS connection, leave the switch on BAL. If you encounter a channel is missing, please switch to SE as your music source only supports single-ended operation.'

Basically, you can leave the the switch to either se or bal if you are doing se-->se and you will have to switch to bal if you are doing bal-->bal. The bolded line is in assumption that TRRS terminated cable is already plugged into the IEMatch and it must be switched to SE to avoid missing channel for bal-->se, so yes it can be used as an adapter for going bal-->unbal source.

To sum it up:

SE-->SE: switch can be se or bal
BAL-->BAL: switch must be bal
BAL-->SE: switch must be se

That would be to nice. I would save a additional 3,5mm TRRS to 3.5mm TRS adapter if I go from balanced source to unbalanced source.

As others remarked, yes, it will make sure you can use your balanced cabled headphone with a source that would normally have one channel drop out.

Not really recommended as this is probably not the most ideal situation. The HD650 is 103dB/1V and already moderately hard to drive. With the iEMatch set to "High Sensitivity" they would become 91dB/1V headphones with 16 ohm impedance, namely a truly terrifying load for many devices out there.

In your case it would be a better idea to re-terminate your cable using the plug from the iEMatch only.

We have considered to make this plug available to smaller OEM's of headphones and cables on a "Frand" ("Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory") basis, but it's not something we are aggressively pursuing. Feel free to ask your headphones' and cables'  maker to enquire with us about obtaining our special 3.5mm plug for your gear.

It has been about a month or so since I've gotten the iematch and I thought I take the time to stop and thank the iFi guys for producing what is in my opinion a must buy for all IEM user. There was a time I used to collect single ended amp, I dont do that anymore as I believe the market is slowly moving away from there however I did keep my favourite. As I slowly moved away from headphone and started using IEM I realised I can never use those amps and no matter what impedance adapters I used things just didnt sound right.

The iematch allows me to once again use my single ended amps.

I ordered the iematch from Amazon (Adorama seller), can anyone tell me how big the shipping box was? Was it packaged by amazon or adorama? I am getting this delivered through a middleman delivery service to Korea and a big shipping box means huge cost. If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it.

Its a pretty small box for the iematch; not much bigger than a single pack of cigarettes.

No idea how big a box Amazon shipped it in though. Mine (direct from iFi) was in about a 6x6in box.
