I'd be hard pressed to say that definitively better headphones than the HE-6 exist, let alone them being "not that good".

Has anyone compared/measured the Dekoni sheepskin pads vs the Mr Speakers E stat pads? Im trying to decide between the two of them.

So I've only been listening for a half hour, but I see what people mean about speaker amps and HE-6. It's fuller, richer on the Panache than on the estimable Mjolnir 2. Haven't found my quarter inch to XLR cable so I haven't tried it yet with K1000, but I'm hearing a buzzing with HD800, HD600, and the K3003i. Assuming that's the downside of speaker amps? The noise?

Yes, although good speaker amps will generally be much quieter.

My second pair of HE6s arrived. I greatly regret selling these, but man, so glad i got them back, Currently listening to these on Velours (newer thicker version from Ebay.) Never listen to these with stock pads before, and i do say i really like the treble in these. Vs. 007 its hard to say for now; i am waiting to get an HE Adapter that is going to be plugged behind a WEE plugged in a Bryston 2B-LP before i jump to serious conclusions. Automatically the treble is out there like a good HD800S set i can say for sure, but way better lows and lusher mids.

Soundstage is where HE-6 falls apart compared to HD800. I love the tone, though. It's a lot easier to fall for.

That can be fixed with the pad change. Imaging while wasnt superb with stock pads, and the sound was still electrostatic like where the sound just "appears" from a void. Vegans give soundstage and imaging a bit more, and evens the peaks out nice. However, Wicked Treble with the New Stock Velours despite some peaks

I've had the vegans for the last year plus, but I think something about planar design just fights imaging. HE1K and Susvara were not great at CanJam SoCal.

Planars will never image as well as a dynamic driver. Ever. It's just the nature of the design. I still choose my modded HE-6 over anything else including HD650 and probably HD800 because it fits my sonic preferences better.

I heard the Simaudio Moon 600i with the 6s and I was dumbfounded at the soundstage. A top end amp with a quality source will give you plenty of 3d placement with planars. We were using a Wavelength Brick fed from our laptop using FLAC files.

Update: An SMC Connector failed the second day i had these. Hifiman Cables are crap.

Also, my left driver flutters/buzzes when doing a frequency sweep. Switching the cables around and it doesnt go to the right side. Took off the grill, changed pads, and took a magnifying glass to the driver to see if the diaphragm had a hole in it, yet had no such luck finding one. Is it vibrating off the stiffening bar on the driver, or vibrating off the driver's housing?!!??
