I downloaded Neutron but have only been using Fiio's Pure Music mode so far

if possible. pls compare its line out with that of x5 in your review.

generally i keep one dap at a time and make it centre of my system, feeding different portable and desktop amps. so line out performance is important.

I like the X5iii line out to the A5 better than without so i will compare them doing that

Do you think X5 III sounds better paired with A5 even with sensitive and balanced IEMs ?
If no improvement using A5 if with IEMs, can you also compare X5 III alone with balanced IEMs vs X7 + AM3 with balanced IEMs ?

I am still rocking fiio x5 classic e12 rig. Cant listen with out e12 regardless of hp or iem used.

Dunno how improved hp stage of x5 iii is. But on classic its ridiculously bad. Especially compared to how good line out is.

I used to use my X5 I paired to E12 too... But with my sensitive new Togo334, E12 is noisy. And I thought, X5 III was good enough without amping with sensitive IEMs... So the comparison with X7 II + IEMs should be done with "X5 III at it best...", with or without amping I don't know...

Anyway, it cannot be with A5 as it has no balanced headphones out. Maybe A5 II, or A6...

i reviewed original x7 when it was released. it had a very competent hp stage back then. i dont think it wouldve changed now. if you plan to use stand alone and balanced is critical, x7 might be too good an improvement. with adding adding an amp i felt x5 pulled ahead depending on amp.
