I'm looking at the X7 MKII as being my first DAP purchase. Will this be a good match with most of the headphones in my signature or do I need to look at something with a little more power like an A&K Kann?

Have you checked out Wm1a ?
I have and that looks like a very good option as well. What are the power specs of the Sony compared to the output of the FiiO?

The FiiO looks to have more power than the Sony. But the Sony is very well built. It'll be good to read some comparison reviews of these two once the FiiO is released.

There is one thing you need to keep in mind. With Sony, AK, Cowon, etc., the max output power is fixed and can't change unless you are feeding LO into the external amp. With X7/X7ii and DX200 you have flexibility of switching to another amp module to boost your power without a need for an external amp stack up. X7ii by default comes with AM3a balance amp which is lower in power than AM3, and better suited for IEMs (especially with higher sensitivity to keep hissing down). You can switch to a more powerful amp module considering you have more demanding full size cans. That's definitely a plus.

Thanks, this will definitely keep in my mind over Opus series.
Switchable amps without having to use LO.

It's a plus to me as well. Flexibility like this is why the X7 MKII is high on my list of options.

That's pretty avg. 5-1 ratio is about right so....

The amp module it comes with is plenty for driving up to Z7 in balanced. More hungry cans...? I dunno, but as mentioned the modules can be swapped out easy
