Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150

N3 has duplex Bluetooth, so you can stream Spotify/Google Play Music from your Android phone to N3 through BT v4.0 aptX and listen to headphones connected to N3. What I just explained is you cannot stream it to N3 and then connect N3 to an external DAC via Coaxial or USB Audio output, and listen to Spotify via the DAC.

That makes total sense, Andy. Thanks for confirming.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to stream to N3 via BT and then go USB out to a DAC anyway. That would be a very unique use case, I imagine :rofl:

That's because someone has asked "can it transfer BT signal via usb or coax ?", at #187, I am trying to clarify if that's what our friend is looking for.

Thank you for the answer, you were right guessing that I want to transfer digital signal via bluetooth to external DAC connected to N3. Maybe it is a "special" scenario but it's very useful when you don't want to hold the phone near DAC but wanna use streaming services

Technically this is straight forward, a Bluetooth dongle with aptx support should serve the purpose, they are not expensive and will free your DAP from occupied at a small cost:

@Andykong
 I don't think so :D These need PC with digital output. With DAP like m1 or ap60 it looks like Phone -bt- DAP -usb- DAC, now I know that N3 can do a Phone -bt- DAP -line out- AMP

Well, I have seen Onkyo demo their USB Bluetooth Adapter with mobile phone and AV Receiver, so I guess computer is not compulsory, but I am not familiar with these products, so I can be wrong.

On the other hand, I have good news for you. When I said the feature is not available, I was based on my understanding on the Engineering sample that I used in CanJam NYC, and that was v0.9Beta firmware. We have the mass production version N3 at our dispatch and the v1.0 firmware is ready few days ago, so I have my colleagues to find out if this feature is available or at least feasible, turn out the digital out has been implemented in the v1.0 firmware already. This is the test conducted by my colleague today:

As illustrated in the photo, the iPhone is connected to N3 via BT, and then N3 is connected to our iDAC-6 DAC and iHA-6 headphone amplifier. Pay attention to the display panel of the iDAC-6, when it says Coaxial, N3 is connected to iDAC-6 with our TypeC to Coaxial Cable (Green/Black color) and providing S/PDIF signal to the DAC. Similarly when the display panel says USB Audio, N3 is connected to iDAC-6 with a standard USB cable and providing USB Audio (digital) out to the DAC. So what you have requested is working on N3 right now. :beerchug:

PS. Sorry for the quality of photo, because the iPhone is occupied, my colleague resolved to his previous mobile phone to take these photo.

Any other colors? Any reason 4.1 aptx was not implemented? Any idea when in April they ship? Thanks for all the info Andy.

Its a matter of timing, we have to use what is available to us from our supply chain channel during the time of design, and the framework and choice of technologies were defined around 8 to 9 months before production and that brings us back to Q2/Q3 of 2016.

This is our first attempt to offer multiple colors on our DAP and we have collected all sorts of suggestion so far, including red, brownish orange and white. We are testing the water with Cyan N3, if the respond to N3 is positive, we'll go for another "exciting" color in near future, if it doesn't go well to start with, we'll fall back to a more conservative color.

If you are referring to US market, there will be an announcement on the first US batch in next few days, please stay tuned.
