AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone

I saw that one, no mention of noise reduction and/or isolation. I'm sorry I wasn't specific. Looking for description of sound not comfort, although that's important. I already own PM-3

There is no noise cancellation. It does leak so it isn't fully isolated. You will still hear some ambient. Think of it as more of a travel headphone around town and not flight preferred. It's lightweight easy to store in carry cases ....it sounds frigg'n great!

Sorry if I missed this @TSAVJason but do you have a pair of Aeon yet to audition? I've been meaning to get back down to you guys again to give the Eikon and Utopia a listen. Been saving up for a new addition to me stable!

So we are crazy in the field with big projects these days but the HeadGear shop is open and you can listen to all the cans you just mentioned at your leisure.

Anyone else noticed the 'air pressure' (sorry, not sure how to describe it properly) you get when you just pop the Aeons on, and they obtain full seal around your ears? Havent felt anything like that on any of my other HP's. That is one tight seal.

I have the HD800 and the Aeon... and the CMA600i.

I think ultimately the HD800 is the better headphone, more details, better soundstage, more open, better defined bass albeit not as present. They are both what I'd describe as neutral headphones, but voices have a slightly fuller tone on the Aeon. The Aeon have a more pleasant presentation over all. Same goes for the bass. The Aeons are not a bassheads headphone, but when I first plugged them in coming from the H800 I found them almost bloomy. After getting used to the Aeon I find the amount of bass to be just right and reach for them for pop, electronic, rap and other genres that benefit from a little more bass. The HD800 just brings you a few steps closer to the music, especially on live recordings. They let you see deeper into the recording which is why they are the winner for me. Sound quality aside, the Aeon is the most comfortable of the two, but both are excellent in this regard. The isolation of the Aeon is very good, which of course you won't get with the HD800. I have no concerns about the build quality of either headphone, they are both solid.

Oh and I'll add this. Should you end up with the HD800 you'll have a fantastic pairing with the CMA600I. People complain that the HD800 is too bright and have harsh treble. With the CMA600I none of this is present. The sound is smooth, the highs are never piercing and voices never too thin.

These are just the thoughts on the two headphones on the top of my head, sorry for the unstructured post. If there is anything specific you'd like me to comment on let me know.
How does the Aeon sound on the CMA600i?

How does the Aeon sound on the CMA600i?

It's a nice clean sound. Dynamic yet still smooth. Punchy without much effort. Great detail for the money in that pairing

yes, I do feel pressure building up in my eardrum when I put on the Aeon. Not very pleasant feeling i tell ya. I try to put it on slowly and angle the pad to minimize this.

I also felt the pressure and do the same thing. The seal is so good that the AEON rivals my Wolfson and LIbratone ANC IEMs in noise cancelling (not as good as Bose in that regard, though).

I just placed an order for these cans a couple of days ago. This information definitely makes me feel even better about the purchase. I already felt good about the great customer service I received from Dan in sorting out my shipping issues, and being able to support a small business by throwing money at it. Sounds like everyone wins.

Yup I feel it too but I also feel it with my beater commuting cans, the qc15. Just means that there's an airtight seal, no ill effect other than your discomfort I guess.
For me the worst common everyday 'air pressure' feeling is when I'm in a car and someone slams a car door shut. (even when they don't slam hard)

I have a lcd-xc but it's too heavy to use in office. Looking for a light close-back alternative. Do you guys think the Aeon is an good alternative without compromise the sound too much?

Depends on what you want. Bass-wise the Aeons with the foam inserts come very close in terms of the ...weighty-ness?/impact of bass, but the XC will still be better if you solely listen to EDM/bass-heavy music.
But if you like to listen to acoustic music, vocals can come off as very thick on the XC (very "closed" sounding / midrange colouration that typical closed-backs have), and imo muddy and unclear when compared to the AEONs and even compared to 650s as another point of reference.
Then again there is quite a large variation between Audeze headphones of the same model, so dunno YMMV

That's a very good question. It is a very good alternative. It's light, easy to transport and sounds great. It leaks but not a bunch so co-workers are less likely to be bothered by your music listening
