Headphones vs speakers
To me, a recording that illustrates the difference between speaker soundstage and headphone presentation is the Karajan "Aida" on Decca/London with Tebaldi and Bergonzi, produced by John Culshaw. There is a crowd scene in Act I. With properly set up speakers--the "triangle" Big Shot...- JefferyK

"DDD" for modern vinyl pressings?
I listen to both LPs and CDs, with headphones. I was very excited to acquire recently an LP of one of my favorite tenors singing Schumann lieder, just voice and piano, issued only in Japan and never reissued on CD. The used pressing is immaculate, no scuffs, probably played only once or twice...- JefferyK

can we hear above 20 KHz? might be asking the wrong question
I was examined by an audiologist back in 2012 and talked to him about high-frequency hearing. He said that in general, only children can hear 20khz -- for adults, 18khz is considered high. Also, in general, women can hear a wider frequency range than men.- JefferyK

Cat-Fi
I adopted Seymour from the pound around 14 months ago -- this is one of the pictures the pound used to advertise that he needed a home. He was 8 years old then. Nobody seems to want to adopt adult cats, but he has been an awesome companion.- JefferyK

High Fidelity
I guess I have a different definition of "high fidelity." My understanding is that "high fidelity" refers to the accuracy of the reproduction of the original recording -- the more accurate the reproduction, the more "high" the "fidelity" is.- JefferyK

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week
Well, I would have loved to DIY my own cable . . . but I'm dumb: I don't know how! :)! So I had no choice but to buy one. I did shop around and I did not find one under $350. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Even if I had found one, I'm not sure I would have bought it. The HDVD-800 amp was a...- JefferyK

Sennheiser's Own Balanced Cables for HD 600/650, HD 700, and HD 800 Available This Week
"balanced vs unbalanced HDVD800 outputs do make a noticable difference though....has nothing to do with the cable quality though but with the outputs on the amplifer, that and the price of aftermarket cables are actually more expensive for me here in Belgium because I have to import them from...- JefferyK

Question about Vinyl and CDs.
"My question is is there a way of digitising(seems like right word?) records so they can be played on music players/computers.And if so will that file EVER be of a higher quality than the lossless files i've imported from my CD's,or is vinyl only better when played on a record player" TASCAM...- JefferyK

Sennheiser HDVD800 Headphone Amplifier
P.S. I'm very skeptical of burn in, but the initial very "digital" sound started smoothing out while I was listening, at about the 30-minute mark. I don't think it was my ears adjusting. Other folks have had a similar experience with this amp. The detail is something else -- very involving...- JefferyK

The effect of break-in: Sennheiser HD650
Some friendly advice: You need a copy editor! That said, it is interesting to think that HD-650s sound mellower as the cushions become softer over time.- JefferyK

Poll: Can you hear sound over 20kHz?
I recently saw an audiologist and talked to him about high-frequency hearing. He said that in general, only children can hear 20khz -- for adults, 18khz is considered high. I had a hearing test. It didn't measure how high I could hear, but it did indicate that my hearing is normal, and this is...- JefferyK

Strange Static, Crackling, Phenomenon - L side only!
My experience is that the doctor makes the referral to the ENT specialist who makes the referral to the audiologist. And hopefully you will get a diagnosis that can be treated -- I have been having trouble with my left ear since late March, but since everything checks out as normal, I was...- JefferyK

What is soundstage?
To me, soundstage is directional placement and image is the holographic thing. I have never experienced imaging with headphones, only speakers. Which is fine with me.- JefferyK

Scratchy sounding CDs, What?
Quote: Can't have mold and mildew without damp. So, in my case, no, that's not the problem. I'm going to assume that the noise issue with my CD is due to a manufacturing defect and that the gradual degredation is the result of oxidizing.- JefferyK

Scratchy sounding CDs, What?
I own 100s of CDs, and I have had this happen with one -- just one -- disc. It is a commercial pressing, it played fine for years, now it sounds like a record with a lot of surface noise. I've tried playing it with a CD player and a laptop -- made no difference. So, I held the CD up to a light...- JefferyK
