New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

I had one of my best headphone aural experiences last night.   I listened to Neil Young's 'Greendale' album with the HE400s and man did it sound good. I am not sure if the fact the CD is HDCD encoded but the soundstage and separation was awesome. If I closed my eyes I could almost believe...

What is a slow vs fast headphone?

I think my HE400s (planar) are fast, and when I say that I mean the drivers respond quickly and are well controlled. I think this is because the drivers/diaphragms are very light and easy to move and the magnetic field is very strong. In dynamic headphones the driver is heavier and more...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

I found rev3 somewhat sibilant, my replacements aren't.

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

Received my new HE400s yesterday :-)   Definiltly seem less sibilant at the moment which is good. They have the white/translucent drivers.   One thing is they seem a bit quieter than the ones I sent back, weird?!

    Audio-gd Compass 2 amp/DAC Impressions thread

Hmm I like the sound of this. Can anyone explain, or point me in the direction, of what all the upgrades that seem to be available do?! Also would these be suitable for HE400s, I suspect they would but just want to make sure not being too au fait with amps.

    **He400 vs Hd650**

Good write up and comparison, really want to try the HD650s! One thing you mention is that with the Bifrost and Lyr the HD650 improved lots, from lifeless to sublime, how did the HE400s compare with the same change?

    Is Schiit Customer Service Schiit?

Well I did get a response, in the end. This time from someone called Alex, who sent a helpful response, I'm sure it wasnt too much effort to do that.   I was just a bit annoyed at the initial curt/'smart guy' response, and then lack of reply to my response. Any way its sorted now!  ...

    Is Schiit Customer Service Schiit?

Last Friday (5th October) I got in contact with Schiit to check on the possibility of shipping a Lyr amplifier to the UK as I could potentially save a decent amount of money doing it this way.   I got a short and curt response from someone called Jason saying    'After shipping and...

Open Announcement on the HiFiMAN HE-400

Does anyone know how international shipping works for me sending these, like customs etc?   I guess when I arrange to send it I will find out but just wondering really!

Open Announcement on the HiFiMAN HE-400

How is this going to work logistically?   I am in the UK and it is going to cost me around £80 to send them back, will this money be re-imbursed and if so how?   Also how long is it going to take?

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

Quote: Yeah but it will be a right mission to get them sent back!   I have just checked and it seems it will cost £70 (~$110) to send them and loads of forms etc, and then get them picked up?

Thanks for the replies.   Its weird because I would have put a DAC as the last piece of the jigsaw (headphone-amp-source-DAC), just goes to show how much I know!   Reckon I will focus on that side of things. I actually got a £260 tax rebate yesterday so thats a good start in my savings...

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

Hmmm not sure what to do.   I have the rev3 and don't really have an issue with the sound, although it is pretty sibilant at times. Having said that I think I may prefer the sound of rev2, or rev3.5.   If it was a case of just going to a shop and exchanging I would, but it will take ages!

£600 budget for complete setup, please help

I ordered from head direct which is essentially hifiman themselves. They ship from Hong Kong. Check out the other threads on the HE400s lots of info in there... On the amp front I haven't noticed any limitations and other have the same set up.

£600 budget for complete setup, please help

In terms of headphones I can 100% recommend the Hifiman HE400s for electronic music. They cost me £270 ($400) and they really excel in this genre, as well as being supreme all rounders. The bass is very present but controlled without being overpowering.   Also they don’t have great...

I was wondering what people recommend my path should be in the world of head fi. I recently got some HE400s and reckon they are ace. However, as seems quite common, I am already thinking what next!   I only have an E17 portable amp at the moment so the logical thing to do would be to upgrade...

    Rs2i VS HE-400 for Rock

Quote: TBH the differences are so minimal they essentially sound the same to me. I got the SR60s first and kind of liked them so thought the SR225s would be a good improvement, they weren't, just more of the same!
