Irish Meet! Saturday 22nd March 2008 Dublin

Just to let you all know that I'm not dead It looks very unlikely that I will be able to make it to the meet but perhaps if this one goes well we can have another.

Best Windows OS for my 900mhz processor?

Win2k sounds good but try fluxbuntu first, runs very well on an old 300Mhz K6 with 128MB of RAM that I use. Just out of interest where can you get win2k install media/licence?

    Laptop recomendations

Asus is a great brand of notebook, some of their laptops include a SPDIF port for better sound than the hp out.

Best cell phone for quality and storage and small form factor

Nokia 5300, durable, compact, good sounding phone and has a micro SD card for storage (potentially 8GB). My sister has this phone and the abuse it takes makes me cringe, it is very durable and comes with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor for using better headphones.

    Building my first Cmoy amp

In his headwize article appendix (A2) Chu has a circuit for an adjustable gain which you could copy with DPDT switch and extra resistors. Gains of 3 and 6 would seem about right to run most headphones.

    OPA551 / BUF 634 - SOIC-8: State of emergency in germany ;)

Farnell have both, they have a .de site so you can avoid import duties and have cheaper, faster shipping.

    Placebo effects?

No, not unless you really believe it will happen, the placebo effect is due to the earnest expectation of a change rather than what you try to convince yourself of. I don't think your question was well put, it comes across as borderline trolling.

    RC Nitro

^^ Very nice, if you are going to buy any more get a Ripmax catalogue as they have some very nice ready-to-race shells and can be ordered via these shops. The painting shells isn't overly difficult, but it is strange painting the top coat first and then the base colour.

    RC Nitro

Very nice, are you painting the shell yourself? If you are I recommend Faskolor paints; water based, ready to spray straight out of the bottle, makes my airbrush a lot easier to clean than with enamels/thinned acrylics. Quote: Originally Posted by RedLeader $2600? o_O...

    OPA551 / BUF 634 - SOIC-8: State of emergency in germany ;)

RS components carry the BUF634 but it's out of stock, the DIL model is available at futurlec.com if your desperate. I would check on TI's website for other European suppliers (search by part number, find the one you want and click "purchase samples")

    Computers are noisy

The best "silentpc" is one of the Via Epia's with solid state storage, no moving parts at all.

    Computers are noisy

Better cooling, get a big, heavy copper/aluminium heatsink with a big, slow fan for your processor/graphics card. If it is the hard drives install anti-vibration rubber grommets. If it's your PSU you will have to upgrade it, if you get a new case + PSU combo get the heaviest case you can. If...

    audiophile diy DAP?

My idea for a DAP; why not use a Via pico motherboard as the base, it can run any x86 OS (a custom linux perhaps), it has USB ports for a DAC to connect and there are USB screens readily available. The motherboard is a typical Via in that it is very power efficient therefore battery power is...

    I need $25 Headphones!

Just to add different headphones; the Sennheiser HD 201/202, these are $24.95 at headroom so right on the budget. IMO few HP's will beat the Koss here, the lifetime warranty is great for cans you are going to travel with.
