EQ and recording quality matters most?
Trying to accurately evaluate the merits of different equipment in a shop demo is difficult. The best option is to find a dealer with a good return policy, or even better willing to lend you a selection of headsets (possibly against a reasonable deposit), which you then can compare in the...- oeyhamre

Entering the wonderful world of vinyl.
I`ve been using a 1200MkII for years and never found anything remotely close. This was Technics`s top bid at a making the ultimate TT and it shows! When buying used be aware of that quite a few of the ones on offer has been DJ (mis)used, so be sure to check the condition. The TTdrive is...- oeyhamre

Old tubeamp question
Quote: Indeed, there are lethal voltages inside, and i'm beware of that. I thought maybe all current would be gone after x days leaving it unplugged from the grid. But maybe that's a wrong assumption. That`s a potentially lethal assumption! Filter capacitors can hold their charge for...- oeyhamre

List of Low/ Mid-Priced Analog Source Owners on Head-Fi
Very happy with my SL1200MKII bought in 1984. It`s been spinning problemfree all that time, just needing a few drops of oil down the bearing every few years. Currently a Shure M97XE is mounted in the stock arm. The rig is presently spinning an old russian pressing of Sgt.Peppers directly...- oeyhamre

How loud is too loud...
nv88, all levels relate to average noise levels. Because the ear is not linear different corrective filters are available in SPL meters. A weighteted is most suitable for low level sounds, B louder and C really loud. In conflict with this many government agencies (O.S.H.A. and others) still...- oeyhamre

How loud is too loud...
Scompton is of course right, my comment was a bit inaccurate. What I meant to say was that one is more likely to turn heasets up to loud. This because you`ll often feel the need to compensate for the lack of soundpressure to the body. Epecially the bass can feel thin and "not there" so you crank...- oeyhamre

How loud is too loud...
You are much more likely to sustain hearing damage with headset. The transducers are just cm. from your eardrums so the level you start making damage is also much lower. It is extremly important to watch your sound level when listening to music. I work as a live soundengineer in a small venue...- oeyhamre

On location mixing/monitoring
I second the AKG K240, only it`s an open headset and sound leaking in/out might be a problem. Good pro closed I`ve tried are the Beyerdynamic DT770 and AKG K271 (now in MKII).- oeyhamre

How Loud is loud? My left ear is aching sometimes.
It is extremly important to watch your sound level when listening to music. I work as a live soundengineer in a small venue and I`m always monitoring the conserts I mix with a sound level meter. At a 1-2 hour concert I never let the average level over 85 - 90 dBA, and never a peak level over 105...- oeyhamre

Is the ATH W1000 better than the HD 650?
The W1000`s does not "need" an amp to sound good, it does sound even better though with the right amplifier. I frequently listen to my W1000`s straight out of my Cowon D2 (with FLAC files). The Cowon has no problem reaching eardamaging volume with the W1000`s, however the sound is a bit flat and...- oeyhamre

What headphones do you have, and what do you still want?
Have (and like a lot): ATH-W1000, the most comfy closed headphone I`ve ever tried. I also love the sound, with some subtle Eq these really sing! Sony MDR F1, the most comfy open headphones I`ve ever tried. (As you can see I value comfort highly, as I often spend hours listening). Had: AKG...- oeyhamre

Which IEM? Q-jays, SE420 or SE530
Thank y`all for your advice so far. After reading ClausDK`s excellent thread on the Q-Jays compared to the SE530 (and a few other reviews) I`ve decided to order a pair of Q-Jays. I tend to like stuff thats neutral, and then add any eq or other "colour" i like depending on mood and what i listen...- oeyhamre

Which IEM? Q-jays, SE420 or SE530
Hi, I`m looking to buy som new IEm for use with my X5. I listen to both classical (mostly chamber) and jazz, but my main diet is rock, r&b and blues. Some of my faves: Beatles, Cake, Aerosmith, S.R. Vaughan, Muddy Waters. So which IEM should I get? The Q-Jays, Shure SE420 or 530. I can`t...- oeyhamre

Sony MDR-F1 has anyone heard these?
I`ve enjoyed my pair of F1`s for almost 9 years now. They`re one of the most comfy headsets out there. The sound is very open and detailed, bass is a bit weak but tight and detailed. Compared to the K1000 I had the bass is more present in the F1. The F1 has many of the qualities I liked with the...- oeyhamre
