If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I received my replacement ER4P today. It arrived in a small box, appears to be new, just the cable, drivers and new grey Tri-tips. Sounds very nice hooked up to my SuperMacro IV. Total cost: $9 to ship to Etymotic, $130 (repair/replace), $9 shipping back to me. Pricier than my original...

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Yes, I have my original accessories. All I was saying was that it's not quite the same as getting a new pair at half price, as was suggested earlier. I also don't know if the replacement pair will be from new stock or refurbished. I am guessing the former, I don't know if it's practical to do...

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

The warranty (or lack of one) on the replaced item surprised me a bit too.  She said that the warranty was for two years from the date of original purchase.  I hope the replacement (that they still consider an out of warranty repair) works properly, but even if it doesn't I don't expect any...

A fair deal.  Likely no accessories, and definitely no warranty (I asked about it).  I'll report back about whatever arrives.

I haven't used my ER4p phones for a couple of years.  They were purchased around 2002, and generally used with a Xin SuperMacro IV amp. In the past few years, I've been using some other IEMs and headphones, but I do miss the ETY sound. I'm resurrecting that system, but found that the (original...

iPod Nano - does it need an amp?

I am delighted with size and sound of an iPod nano combined with a Xin SuperMicro. I'm currently using an 8gb 2G unit, but the photo below is of my older first generation unit. Using the line-out is a significant improvement, even using the inexpensive SIK Din connector.

Xin Supermicro IV: how is it attached to the case?

It's not attached, it's a snug fit with ports, the switch and volume wheel nestled in their respective openings.

A thread for the supermicro 4...??

I've had a supermicro III for a year, with absolutely no problems with the case (I use a clear poly band around it), nor with the battery contacts. For anyone who wants some cheap insurance regarding the case... Xin sells extra cases for a massive $9.99 each... get a few and you're set for...

    Calling all Xin amp users!

I made this photo of my first nano with a SuperMicro III last year. It should give you a good sense of size. Super portable system. I've since removed the firewire cable from the SIK Din shown, so there's only one wire. I've since moved to a Gen 2 nano, and will likely get a SuperMicro IV...

    ipod nano case with magnet

I've never used a case with a magnet. I'm not concerned for damaging the electronics, but I have had small magnets corrupt the magnetic strips on the back of my credit cards that were stored in the same clothing pocket. So if you do use a case with a magnet, keep the case away from your...

I got an email today saying that something shipped to me from Xin. This should be a second generation SM-IV board that's being upgraded to the latest and greatest. As always, I await the package... and know I'll have a smile on my face at the end of that day. Auditioning/comparing his amps...

    Xin SuperMicro IV impressions

It appears that all of the SuperMicros (III and IV) have the machining marks on the case below the volume control. I do not believe it is poor machining, but by design. Of course, if anal enough, one could polish it out < s >

    Xin appreciation thread

I have a SuperMacro3 for use with my 4G iPod and a SuperMicro3 used with an iPod Nano. Very cool amps. Yes, communication with Xin can be spotty, but he has always come through for me. I'm waiting to hear about his offer to upgrade my SM3 (there are some improvements he made to the SMIII...

    New Totally Custom IEM's

Marilyn Nadia has made several in-ear monitors for me and my motorcycle passengers. The most recent pair she made for me has a short cord for easy use with my AutoCom motorcycle intercom (attaches near the helmet).

Your portable player and portable amp...

My portable rig is a 4G iPod with a Xin SuperMacro3 amp. My Ultraportable rig (the one I carry most of the time these days) is an iPod Nano with a Xin SuperMicro3 amp, and either Etymotic ER4p or ER6i phones. Tiny tiny tiny!

    Ipod nano line out

I think having a headphone out port and a docking connector yields tremendous flexibility with limited real estate. You connect whatever device/cable combination you need for the task you're trying to address. I can understand some folk would like a dedicated line out port. However, others...

    Xin order status???

Xin's site is back up, moved to a new host. Evidently Xin was busy filling orders while the site was down, and it looks like he's catching up with the backorders.

Altec Lansing IM716 equals Ety ER4s

I don't understand the confusion about the comment Don Wilson made about the two headphones only sharing one part. The triflanges are the same. The cord and plug is obviously different. The transducer housing/sleeve is obviously different. So according to his statement, the actual...

    Supermacro power light differences

It seems that by removing the blue LED, Xin was able to move the OUT port over to the right a bit, giving better clearance for larger headphone plugs. So there was a practical reason for the change.

    To amp + ER4S, or not to amp + ER4P? That's this newbie's question...

To clarify: The Xin SuperMACRO-3 has front panel switches for the additional impedance, bass boost and other functions. The Xin SuperMINI-3 has internal jumpers to switch in the additional features The Xin SuperMICRO-3 requires an external impedance cable or plug if you want ER4-S sound from...
