shielded vs unshielded XLR input jack - when should I use 1 over the other?

not enough difference to worry about. Remember to connect pin #1 to the metal chassis at the connector. * * * * * * * * although the metal ones will connect the cable connector shell to the chassis (so added shielding).

    Ferrite Beads - Useless?

    Cheap RCA Cables vs Expensive

with 15 meter (50 foot) long RCA interconnects there will be differences in background noise levels. With 1 meter RCA interconnects, it's doubtful. But for interference problems, length isn't the big factor and the cheap ones might do better.

Why Audio Science Review's measurements are so different compared to other sources?

As the types of tests that Amir uses are the ones available in Audio Precision test equipment and similar to the tests done by others with skill, I would trust his measurements. The 'Audio Science Review' forum is open to discussions about suitable test protocols.

    Extremely sensitive to sound

Hiss is often a 'stage gaining' problem. That's when the level controls for all the stages are not set to their best position and one stage needs to do a lot of amplification.

Well I do it all the time (insert headphones) but the volume is at a reasonable level for the headphones.

    Extremely sensitive to sound

You are not the only one! Now that I'm old, it's only the low frequency noise (that others don't notice) that bothers me. My wife has one of her mother's wrist watch's. I make her keep it in a drawer in another room, so I don't hear the ticking. In the pre-CD era, I would go into my buddy's...

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power

a little "Kill-a-Watt" meter (or similar) will do a good job of measuring power line Voltage, Current & Power. with any DMM if you measure before and after the isolation transformer, most of the meter's errors will cancel out.

RCA Splitters (DAC into headphone amp and hifi amp)

Sure they are good. But there are (were) some components that do funny things to their inputs when powered off. In effect, their input circuit becomes a diode.

What do you think about subjective opinions without any scientific basis?

To avoid confusing @gregorio and @sander99, instead of writing: 'ears only' listening test or: 'blind' listening test, I will try 'hidden component' listening test. and see how that works.

What do you think about subjective opinions without any scientific basis?

Nothing in the future of scientific discovery, will eliminate the need that all listening tests be ears only (aka blind) listening tests.

In the world of audio, the word 'subjective' has two meaning: a] in the pro audio world, it's an ears only description, rating or preference. b] in the audiophile world, it's whatever the audiophile says, becomes true.

How do I convince people that audio cables DO NOT make a difference

Because a power cord can act as an interference antenna (either transmitting or receiving) it's possible that power cords can make a difference. But it's very rare and takes almost Perfect Storm conditions to happen. Also it's not the power cord that causes the problem, the cord is just the...
