Bowers & Wilkins P7 - over the ear headphones

Tried listening to it, doesn't seem to have a difference although I've been using it so sparingly lately (weekly or fortnightly) that I'll be surprised if I could clearly differentiate how it sounded.

Bowers & Wilkins P7 - over the ear headphones

I removed the left ear pad from my P7 headphones recently and was dismayed to find the middle of the cone had been dented. Does this affect the sound quality output of the driver?

    RHA MA750i vs Vsonic GR07/BE/MK2

While I haven't heard the GR07 before, just some opinions about the MA750i...   The earphone itself is very low profile (I'm assuming that's what you are referring to when asking whether it sits flush with the ear).   While there have been numerous reports of driver flex, my latest pair of...

Need some advice choosing between the RHA MA750i and Bose MIE2i Earphones

while I have not tried the Bose earphones before, I would say the RHA MA750i would be a good choice, it's hard to go wrong with it. Excellent value for money, great sound, good build quality, comes with 3 years warranty as well. I have recommended these earphones to a number of friends, and they...

Bowers & Wilkins P7 - over the ear headphones

is it just the leather creasing? I think creasing on the leather is normal with extended usage (4 hours a day for 6 months is quite heavy usage).

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

Don't have the HP50 to compare against, but i can offer a quick companion between the K545 and P7. The first thing that struck me in the K545 was the bass, as it was more impactful that I had expected, which was a nice surprise as I have heard that AKG headphones tend to be bass light. That...

    Mild Crackling in some songs

Well rather say than there's no point getting good headphones, aim to get good quality tracks to match your headphones! And like you said, the clipping only happens with some songs, so you still enjoy all your other songs. Quite extreme to just conclude that there's no point getting good headphones.

    Mild Crackling in some songs

don't think there's any way to eliminate that, often higher quality headphones are more revealing of such mastering faults. Having good quality external DACs tend to reveal these faults even more.   I'm of the opinion that quality mastering of songs are far more important that the compression...

bowers and wilkins p7 head to head with other headphones

While I'm not sure what kind of headphones you're looking for exactly, I can say that the P7s are definitely not flat or vocal oriented... in fact, the mids take a slight backseat and the bass having a bump.

Philips Fidelio L1 or AKG K 545 or Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear

I'd definitely choose the K545 over Momentums OE, they offer a much cleaner sound with wider soundstage than the Momentums. However, the K545 (being an over ear) is larger than the Momentums.   Haven't heard the L1 before, so can't comment on that...

    The NEW ATH-ES700..

I personally would think it's quite a waste of money as the ES700 is an extremely easy to drive headphone. I have an E17 that I use with my other headphones, but I never ever use it with the ES700 as there isn't any discernible improvement with it amped, and it's almost not worth the hassle...

Comparisons: 36 of the Top Closed/Portable Headphones Around

Yea I was pretty surprised to see your P7 on sale! Such a good pair of headphones! That said, I'm looking forward to your review of the ML Mikros 90! Those have been on my wish list for a while :D

    RHA MA750 or Shure SE215

The RHAs are superb value for money, I would personally go with that.   An amp/DAC wouldn't have much significant effect, but this really depends on what you're using to play your music.

Necessity of driving a low impedance headphone (16 Ohm)

16ohm headphones should still be fine with your E17. You can switch the gain to 0dB if you're worried. I use my portable headphones with E17 all the times, usually using it with 0dB gain and volume level 30.

    Shure SE535 vs Bowers & Wilkins P7

I think this is quite an extreme comparison, considering that you're judging one of the largest portable headphones against an IEM... If you're after portability, go for the SE535 by all means, I don't think you'll be sacrificing any sound quality with the SE535. Unless there is a particular...

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

I have to admit, even though I already own the P7s, I get tempted by the Momentums every time I walk past the local headphone stores and see these on the shelves. These simply look too good and sound great as well!

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

While price isn't the best indicator of headphone quality or pairing needs, as a rough benchmark, yes, i would agree with your summary.

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

I won't deny that with the right gear, you would be able to do A/B comparisons and differentiate between 128kbps mp3s and lossless formats. Without an A/B comparison, however, most people may not even realize they're listening to a lossy format

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

I wouldn't kill myself over it, just gotta remember that you're spending your own money and enjoying your own music :) don't let the opinion of others affect your own enjoyment of music. There's usually a bandwagon effect on these forums, and everyone starts making the same claims regardless...

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

And in case you're still worried about your 256kbps library, take a look at this link, where a blind testing between 128kbps AAC and lossless was done...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrfX-g8auc8&feature=c4-overview&list=UUG-kL1LRqw6Akq0ktl9da1g   Even though 3 results (4, if you include...

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

256kbps is fine, you will likely not be able to differentiate between these and lossless formats. Like I mentioned earlier, the mastering/recording of the files is most important, as a badly mastered track will sound terrible on good headphones/IEMs, lossless or not.   Most of the...

drawing the line for best sound from an ipod/mp3 player

Speaking from personal experience, you shouldn't need to worry too much about file compression. Having done a few blind tests myself, I honestly couldn't differentiate accurately between lossless and compressed formats (256kbps AAC). Just make sure you use files from credible sources, i.e. not...

    The potential of Momentum over-ear

+1 that recordings are the most important. Honestly I've done a few blind tests on my headphones, and I can barely tell the difference between FLAC/320kbps. Badly mastered recordings, however, will be easily picked up by your headphones, FLAC or not.

Sennheiser Momentum vs. Bowers & Wilkins P7 vs. Sony MDR-1R vs. Parrot Zik vs. Bose QC15

My personal experience with the P7 is that the bass is strong only when the recording calls for it. And when it does, boy does it come on strongly... certainly makes EDM and trance very engaging indeed. With the songs you listen to, I would say the P7 should be quite suitable.   I haven't had...
