    R.I.P. Dr. Amar Bose

Bose did a lot for bringing attention to better quality audio. Their products are generally heavy on marketing, over-hyped and over priced, but every product I've had interaction with was decent. Their noise cancelling is very well done, if you like that sort of thing. In college I had to take a...

    Why the Beats Hate?

Then you should be happy with any old pair of $30 headphones. Beats Solos sound like cheap headphones. If you want to pay a lot more for trendy cheap headphones, that's cool.

    post your grado mods....

L Cush here. I honestly don't hear that much difference between the L Cush and Senns with the Quarter mod. A little more space, but its a subtle difference. I like the comfort of the L Cush a lot more the flat pads irritate my ears after a while.

    Grado modders go Magnum

I wouldn't call the bass in mine "punchy", but it is deep. I have Mahogany cups from Martin, drivers held in with the tacky stuff from dynamat.

Very nice GermanGuy. I love the bubbled out screen.

The Official Grado 325i Owners Club.

I love my 325is, but who knows, they probably are inferior to many other phones. That's ok, I'm very happy with what I have. For me, once you get to a certain level with headphones, its hard to call some inferior or superior to others. They just each have their differences. A lot of people's...

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote:   I have no problem with it either - that was the reason for my initial interest in Beats. My Grados are a bit ridiculous as well - and not exactly portable. But when the stylish headphones are marketed at top-tier audiophile quality and priced as such, I expect them to sound good too.

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote: Quite a bit - a few Sonys, Sennheisers, Grados, Koss. The Bose display is right next to the Beats display at Best Buy. I cant imagine why you wouldn't pick Bose over Beats and Bose is infamous for being overpriced. I'm really not a fan of the over-rated Koss Portapros, but I would...

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote: The demo at Staples let you plug in your own source. The Solos were still the worst headphones I've ever heard over $30. I found the Pros to be actually enjoyable, but still less than anything else in their price range.

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote: Who knows, but I don't think so. I really wanted to like Beats. I thought it was cool to see some attention being given to making quality headphones that look good too. I listened to them at a demo and was sorely disappointed. I thought something was wrong with the demo. I checked...

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote: Exactly this. I've known 2 beats owners. They wanted new headphones and assumed from all the ads that Beats were the best. The high price point kind of confirms that - you get what you pay for, right? One of them replaced his Bose phones with Beats. Most consumers don't want to spend...

    Why the Beats Hate?

Quote: If they prefer the sig of beats, they should just get some $20 Sonys. Crappy, muddy bass and no detail is easy to find in lots of budget headphones. Its not like Beats have some kind of unique sound signature that has never been achieved before. The pros aren't too bad, but again...

Quote: I don't think people are making things up. There's likely a lot of things going on. I believe some of it is source equipment and/or file format/quality. The 325is are not forgiving of bad source files.  Some of it may be that some genres of music respond better on different phones...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Quote: I don't really believe in burn-in either, but I do remember when I first listened to my Magnum drivers, I was disappointed with the bass response and thought they sounded really thin. Now, when I compare them to my Grado 325is, I hear deep satisfying bass. I don't know if the phones...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Quote: Sort of, but I will say the bass is very different. It will never sound like the bass from a SR60. The mid-bass kick you get from the 60s is gone. Its a more flat response, but the bass goes lower into the sub-base range. I can see how, depending on what you listen to, that they may...

Oh, I was under the assumption that Tubulent X was Magnum v5. I wonder what the differences are, if any... Mine are Turbulent X.

Quote: Crazy. When I got my 325is, the increase in clarity and detail was like a punch in the face (in a good way). I find the 325is to be much more detailed and crisp.  Although, my 80s were the original SR80 - not the SR80i.

    Grado modders go Magnum

I wouldn't think so. Mine are in wood cups from Martin as well.(though they are much lighter than my SR325is) These aren't bass-heavy in the best of circumstances. I would definitely try another amp, but that may not be the problem. It may just be the clean, detailed, flat signature is not ideal...

    Grado modders go Magnum

I would also check your amp. The pads can help the bass, but if you have some off bass response due to impedance differences, pads probably wont fix that. I've run my Grados through an OTL amp (MKIII) and it sounded great, but I've read reports of poor bass response with lower impedance phones...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Quote: They are flatter like the stock SR60/80 pads, but they have a cutout in the center. The L Cush are thicker and set the phones away from your ears a bit more. Some people have modded their stock pads by tracing a quarter and making their own cutout.

    Grado Fan Club!

Quote: To my ears the bass on the 80s was more mid-bass, more of a good kick for rock you can feel. The 325is don't have that mid-bass bump, but they have more sub-bass that is tighter and extends deeper. I think your perception of "more" or "less" may depend on what exactly in bass you are...

    Grado modders go Magnum

Quote: That was my first impression with the Magnums as well, but after some time, I adjusted to them and now I really like the bass response. They are extremely detailed in the highs and the bass is very flat - which is fantastic for classical/acoustic and jazz. The typical Grado mid-bass...

Quote: Interesting. I had almost exactly the opposite impression going from the 80s (no "I") to the 325i. I thought the 325i had less mid bass and more clarity, detail, and instrument separation than the 80s. Either way, yes, I love them both for what they are.
