Buying portable or in-ear headphones? Seeking guidance? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask for advice HERE!

It's not an issue with scenarios, it's an issue with the veterans who deemed it necessary to clean up the suggestion threads not actually reading and supporting the thread.  I don't blame them, I just mean to say that the only way a single suggestion thread can work is if people with insight...

Buying portable or in-ear headphones? Seeking guidance? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask for advice HERE!

I'm looking for an IEM with good soundstage, quality vocals and an airy presentation with as much micro detail as possible.  I like classic rock, blues, jazz, classical, and generally speaking prefer natural instruments for this set.   RE-0 I can find for $79 RE-ZERO I can find for $59  ...

    The discovery thread!

FWIW I received my replacement ELE dac today, black as requested and the channels were correct.     I opened it up and it's also a much better soldering job.  There are a few pins on the chip that seem to have bridged joints on both of my units though, and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be...

Quote:   I have an s3 coming, but I'm wondering what the SQ difference is going to be like.  The s3 has a highly praised wolfson 24bit dac in it already and considering the ele is 16 bit I just wonder if I'm better off with the s3 and an amp.  Have you seen a marked improvement in sq, or...

The NEW JVC HA-S400. Affordable Carbon Nanotube cans for the masses.

I personally didn't notice an improvement on burn-in with my s400's, but that is just me.  Still think they sound excellent, just didn't see a marked change after 50 hours of play time.

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

I have bought 12 Rean nickel connectors now, and while I like them at least 1/2 have connection issues (the slightest tweak will lose a channel, etc).  I'm thinking about getting a few Canare F12's for larger cable jobs, but 5 bucks each is hard to swallow.     On a separate note:  ...

Quote:   Yeah I was just saying if it costs too much to patch the one you have you might as well buy a new one at the length you want or build one from scratch.

Quote:   Make sure you have heatshrink that can go over both ends (including the plugs), cut near one end of the termination leaving just enough to strip, solder, heatshrink/teflon/shield/teflon until it's about the size of the cable, then heatshrink both ends so both ends look the same...

Yeah I didn't touch the lettering, so you're dead on there.  I'm not sure if I want to try to repaint it, or maybe pull those rings, paint them white then paint the lettering black.

Quote:   I bought the cheap 3:1 heatshrink tubing from cableorganizer.com and it didn't come with any writing on it.  For that matter I've bought 2:1 from redco (the cheaper stuff) and it had no writing either.

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

I decided to spruce up my Grados with a touch of white.  Had some Canare starquad in white and some white paracord with black/white heatshrink so I ran with it.  A little paint later I think I have some relatively unique headphones that aren't overly gaudy.  And as promised, you get to see the...

lu_cytime208  -  And I just checked the package and it seems it came from Shenzen, China.  Not sure if that's near HK or what.  Came via China Post with a joint label from USPS.  Her listings, once bought, also present a table with percentages for delivery timeframe.  Mine came pretty quickly...

    The discovery thread!

My seller confirmed she has sent out another EL-D01 to me at no cost.  Really awesome of her to do.  I don't know how head-fi handles endorsements but I would gladly recommend her ebay listing to anyone who asks.  FWIW it came from HK and got here (just north of Miami, FL) in 13 days, so...

Quote:   Darin's guide to heat shrink tubing.   1.  Acquire heat shrink. 2.  Do other stuff until you are ready to shrink it. 3.  Turn on burner (obviously not a gas burner, coil of some kind) 4.  Hold over stove like smores over a campfire, turning in the same manner. 5...

    Best keyboards for gaming!

I have a CM Storm Trigger with black switches that I like.  I originally ordered the Quickfire Pro and it came late and had an old firmware that had compatibility issues with my motherboard so I contacted a rep on some forums I frequent and he was kind enough to process the RMA and send me the...

Quote:   Actually the DAC doesn't have any kind of software overlay and windows doesn't seem to have an option to reverse channels, at least on the surface.  Beyond that having to reverse channels in any audio player I use in any PC I plug this into seems a lot more cumbersome than just...

Got my EL-D01 today.  Open the package, the item is blue.  I check the auction I closed, it clearly states black in the description and says you get what is pictured (4 pictures of a black DAC).  Ok, I can live with blue who cares.  I turn it over, big scratch across an entire corner.  Whatever...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Just wanted to say that I had some 28 AWG silver plated copper wire, I believe 7 strand, from navships that I recabled my KSC75's with a while back.  The microphonics were explosive.  I couldn't move, I couldn't do ANYTHING without hearing something.  I had already ordered some paracord, both...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Certainly a possibility.  I did try 4 different cables I had around the house though because I wondered the same thing.  Only reason I bought the nice cable was because I was working at Best Buy at the time and figured I'd see what the fuss was about with Audioquest cables (70% discount at that...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

I had an HTPC connected to my TV via a cheap HDMI cable.  When I watched HD rips and used the skip forward function there was a delay, followed by a period of the audio and video chasing one another to resync.  I thought my HTPC was just having a tough time processing the large files.  Switched...
