Overrated: HE400, HE500. Are they good? YES. But a large part of their reputation is from the psychological effect from this mystique to them because of their planar magnetic drivers. But in terms of imaging and just sounding better. I think Senn HD600/650 are better.

I heart my VModa M100 :D, but they are definitely for contemporary genres only. Depends on the type of music you listen to, if you listen to a lot of EDM, ie. house, trance, dubstep etc. The bass is pretty lacking. Bass may be a bit lacking for heavy metal, but should be great for R&B. Only way to find out is to try them on your self. 

IMO the momentum is not very good for dubstep and trance. Bass is very lacking imo.
