AFAIK the d1001's are not bass heavy.

they are ON ear, unless you have seriously tiny ears. However the cushioning is plush enough and the dual-headband helps distribute the clamping force and weight of the headphone evenly enough that It shouldn't bother you, If anything were to bother you about the HD-25 it'd be the clamping...

the static is most likely background noise from your computer, anything from the HD spinning up to your capaciters peaking will cause audible feedback with an onboard audiosource, this is mitigated with a dedicated soundcard but not completely eliminated (esp if you use frontpanel connections...

yep, CALs however have gone up in price recently and aren't as much of a bargain as they used to be. I had an offer of a used pair on a different FS/T forum, however that user disappeared right before christmas and has not gotten back to me. Perhaps his internet is out and hes stuck in his house...

I finally decided on the Denon 1001k's and lo and behold they are sold out everywhere, including the store I was going to purchase them from. I think they're available at a few shops for ~150, however I was only willing to purchase them at the 80-90 price point.   Ah well, took too long to...

I appreciate your insights, but infact I am not the OP. The OP does own the CAL!   I'am simply in some serious purchasing gridlock, attemtping to find what is best to me between those 3 models... without being able to listen to the CAL or 1001k's.   Been trying to get some good answers...
