USB sound card users: got a question

My friend uses a stereo-link on his win2k box. He mentioned something about having to reset. It was definitly a driver, not a hardware, issue tho.

    trippy techno?

Joe Satriani - Engines of Creation This album has by far the coolest soundstaging I have ever heard. And I like my soundstaging. ATB - Two Worlds the 2nd cd "the relaxing world" has some advanced soundstaging. I'd be glad to send anyone some wavs if they want.

    So Cal get-together -- revisited!

i have finals next week, so any weekend after this weekend would be great, except new years. I live in OC and goto college in LA, so either is fine with me. I have one of the new max's. A NAD C541, 2 HD600's, a clou red, and the cardas smuff. i'd be glad to tote them along.

    good stationary CDP needed

it depends on what you consider "cheap" NAD C541i is a great product for the money. It'll cost you around 450. Thats about as cheap as I would go for a CDP. I've heard good things about some of the sony ES products.

source comparisons - mp3 and CD

aeberbach : where did you goto college and not manage to learn anything? seriously, i don't think i know everything. But do know quite a bit about mp3s. I stand behind everything I've said. CS 10 years ago is not what CS is today. just for the record. -JT

source comparisons - mp3 and CD

look, i'm like 3 months away from my computer science degree, so bieleve me when I say that i know a fair amount about compression algorithims. MP3s compress sound using rules people have come up with on how our brains intrepret sound. (like if there are two sounds being played simultaniously...

source comparisons - mp3 and CD

first off, CD's sound better than MP3's. Period. Here are some (serious) holes in their "test". 1: They don't list the acutal CD's they used. Just various "rock and pop." These cd's could be poorly mastered, or contain music that doesn't fill the full spectrum of sound frequencys at any...

    Source confusion...

MP3s are crap. Run from them. I would go into alot of detail about why this is the case, but I would rather not. Altho, your tube amp may smooth out the artifacts that bother me so much. I think the delayed frequency response associated with tube amps will help your mp3s to sound more...

    Who LIKES there HD600s?

I have 2 pairs of HD600's, one with clou red and one with the cardas smuff cable. Both run thru my 2001 headroom max, which feeds off my NAD C541 thru some alpha-core 99.999% pure silver interconnects. Suffice it to say, my HD600's are golden. Slam, liquid, detail. Whatever the music has...

    CD Recorder

CD burner all the way. Plextor is the best. Get an Ultraplex 40 CD Rom drive too or you'll end up with alot of errors ifyou try to copy at high speed. SCSI is better, but I think I'm the only person on the planet who still goes SCSI. Also, the media you use can make a BIG difference in the...

    Rock Guitar

It seems to me like I'm the only head-fi member who listens to rock guitar... Anyone else ever listen to Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, or Jeff Beck? If so, name some tracks (the album they are on) and what you like about them.

Pretty much anything by Joe Satriani of note: Always with me, Always with you (surfing with the alien) Raspberry Jam Delta V (Crystal Planet) Ceremony (Crystal Planet) Engines of Creation (Engines of Creation) Rubina'a Blue Sky Happieness (The Extremist) the list goes...

Should I fork out for quality cable?

if you ask me, you will only hear a marginal improvement in sound quality using monster cables. In my opinion, monster cables are marketed as "audiophile" (notice the quotes!!!!) cables to the masses () who don't know better. I think you would be much better off getting a low end cable from a...

Music That Puts You To Sleep

Joe Satriani - Engines of Creation. By far my fav CD to fall asleep to. (its also out in SACD for all you rich F00Ks out there ) The soundstage will make you dream about celestial bodies in a clean, 60" HDTV kind of way.

    Anybody see or use this?

www.stereo-link.com have used it before. beats any PCI soundcard (that isn't a professional recording tool) laptop soundcards are ass. if you can put up with its annoying driver issues then the stereolink is a great option.

Newbie questions/looking for home CD player ~$500>

radrd, Don't make the mistake of overlooking the NAD C520 cdp. Also, the headroom little is in your pricerange for amps. But the meta42 will probably do you better.

    Cables for HD 600

I've used the stock cables, the red jasis and the cardas cables. I should probably mention that I have one of the new headroom Max's and a NAD c541 cd player. In my expierence, the red jaspis are waaay to bright. And thats with the max's filter off. The cardas cable is much, much more...
