when you leave your soundcard eg. the sonica on idle, ie. not playing any sounds at all for a while, do you have to turn it off and on again before sound'll play?

cos right now, after a while if there're no sounds, then windows will not be able to detect my Audiophile USB (it still shows up in device manager, its just programs pop up "no sound device" type errors!) and I have to turn it off and on before it works again. I'm wondering if its a fault with USB sound cards in general, (cos I experienced this with both my previous Sonica and now my Audiophile USB) or are my USB ports just flakey?

No, I've never experienced this. (I've tried the Sonica, Hi-Fi Link, and Stereo-Link.) It's probably your motherboard's implementation of USB.

I'm using an Abit BD7-II btw..

You might want to check if Abit has an updated version of the BIOS for your motherboard on their website. It might fix things...

My friend uses a stereo-link on his win2k box. He mentioned something about having to reset. It was definitly a driver, not a hardware, issue tho.

try some of those out.. but be careful and make sure not to use the raid versions if you're using the models that don't have raid.

anyway, i just bought a BE7 today. hopefully the problem's gone..
