DAC popularity check
I think the price range for each of the categories should be determined. From observing the list: Entry ($1-$499) Mid-level ($500-$1499) High-end ($1500- ) Does this sound reasonble?- 1031tensai

Tennis-Fi
Love my good old Wilson ProStaff 6.0 95... too bad they're discontinued Looking for an alternative, anyone know a more recent racquet similar to the 6.0 95? For strings, I use Gosen OG-Sheep Micro 16 @ around 58lbs.- 1031tensai

A relatively affordable balanced headphone amp? The CEC HD53N
Decided to resurrect this thread because, now that I have purchased a PS Audio Digital Link III with balanced outputs, getting a balanced headphone amp has actually become a possible upgrade for me in the (hopefully) near-future. I'm still very interested in this amp especially because it seems...- 1031tensai

Going to Japan - What should I buy?
Congratulations on your purchase, slunk077. If anyone ever has a chance to visit Japan, I highly recommend "Dynamic Audio 5555" in Akihabara for true audiophile heaven. 7 floors worth of audio equipment. You can audition unbelievable amounts of gear, from headphones to 100k+ speakers. YUM- 1031tensai

A relatively affordable balanced headphone amp? The CEC HD53N
Hehe, I sure would love to, but my wallet is frowning... Besides, I first need to get a balanced DAC I actually was looking at CEC's new DAC, the DA53N (which is the successor of the highly acclaimed DA53) when rolled upon this headphone amp.- 1031tensai

A relatively affordable balanced headphone amp? The CEC HD53N
As an owner of the Sennheiser HD650s, I have always been on the lookout for relatively affordable (<$1000) balanced headphones amps. CEC, a reputable Japanese audio brand, is going to be coming out with a new balanced headphone amp sometime this spring: the HD53N...- 1031tensai

Cambridge DACMagic, anyone?
Thanks for the review, adamus. It will be great if you can keep us informed if you notice any significant improvement(s) while the unit is further being burned-in. Seems like a very nice unit. From adamus's description, it also looks like it's what I perfectly need. I'm hoping for more...- 1031tensai

external dac and soundcard?
sorry that im asking a probably redundant question, but i am still confused even after an extensive search through head-fi about external dacs and soundcards. does the soundcard affect the sound quality when an external dac is connected to it? for example, emu 0404 => benchmark dac1 and...- 1031tensai

$2000
woah, a lot of choices .... thanks everyone for the inputs! now let me see, it seems like the onix xcd-88 is a good choice for the cdp (~$300, $1700 left) not sure of the others tho, but for the speakers the onix rocket series, vandersteens, or the omega loudspeakers seem appealing to me... -
$2000
my parents noticed that i'm getting into audio and they wanted me to choose a good, complete speaker system to buy: speakers, cdp, receiver/preamp/poweramp, cables, and every other equipment needed. the budget is, as stated in title of this post, $2000. i really don't know how much to spend...- 1031tensai

Future-proof amp?
ive heard that the singlepower sds-xlr and dynamight match well with high-end cans such as ps-1, l3000, r10, qualia 010, etc. also balanced hd650, which i will start with ive also saw good reviews on the gilmore reference them as well, but it seems the dynamight is superior to it. i guess...- 1031tensai
