    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

Hi, I'm intending to buy a new headphone, and I'm very enthusiast about the HD800 itself. I heard it on a Hi-fi show two years ago, and immediately fell in love with their clarity, sounstage, and resolution , but with more agressive music , like Hard rock, the treble was a bit peaky. I've...

So... Lehman BCL, Lake People Amps?

Oh, and well the Lehmann BCL is a good buy for that price but should be in the same class as the Butte, Graham Slee Ultra Linear and Lake People G-109p and the Meier Corda Classic.

So... Lehman BCL, Lake People Amps?

The Apex Bute is a very good sounding amp. Amazingly clear and transparent with good bass and an amazing midrange that is a little on the "full" side of neutral, but not warm by any means. Treble extension is top-notch as well. Soundstage depth is also just awesome for that price width is only...

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

What is the serial number of your T1s? The older numbered models were quite forward an edgy. (<3500) The newer ones are much smoother across the entire frequency range, but still a bit bright compared to an HD600 for example.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I saw in one of your post that you compared the two, and said that the Shure cannot compete with the HE500s. I just wanted to know more about it. (In detail)

Best upgrade for me? Coming from K701 and D5000

Others say that the T1 is an overpriced headphone, and equals to the HE500 in sonic performance. I haven't heard the HE500s, but I've heard the T1s and they were fantastic, altough a bit bright compared to my SRH1840.

dleblanc343: You mean that they were that much worse than the HE 500s?

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

When I had my DT880s (250 Ohms), initially I was listening to them off an ASUS D2X, which is almost as good in sonic performance as your friend's STX. It was quiet mediocre IMO. They didn't sound nearly as good as they could, and I had known that before I purchased an external DAC/AMP combo ...

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I'm currently listening to my SRH1840s with a borrowed ADL Esprit DAC and my Apex Butte, altough the sound is not hyper-engaging or astonishing but man, do these have and open, expansive soundstage and spot-on imaging! The sound is wonderfully natural as well. Every instrument sound like you...

    Alternatives to Audiolab M-DAC?

You made a good decision, especially regarding that you bought it 50 pounds less than the retail price.  I think it exceeds the DACmagic Plus sound wise by a small margin.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I doubt that the Q701 would ever surpass the SRH1840 in technicalities except for a slightly wider soundstage. Actually I found that the SRH1840 rivals the T1 in technicalities, except for the bass quality and fastness. But the T1s have to be driven from a high voltage amp, otherwise the...

In search of the perfect headphone (for me, that is)

From what I've read, the AD2000's would be the best 'budge't option. Fast, textured bass, forward mids, and balanced, smooth high frequncies. It supposedly has a fairly wide soundstage also.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

What equipment do you use except for the Sony portable? I use a cheap Xonar D2X soundcard, which I know is very anemic for such an expensive headphone , but I am not willing to pay at least 500 $ for an accetable DAC and the same amount for a decent headphone amp right now. I also have an...

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

That was a too harsh word. It's not disgusting, it's just annoying. Or maybe I like a more laid-back sound signature like my old DT880's had.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

How is that possible, that I'm the only one who think that the 1840's upper midrange is unbearable and ear-piercing, especially on vocals. I'm trying to like this headphone but the huge upper midrange-treble peak in the vocals always disgusts me, and interrupts my listening. It sounds like a...

What a pity. I wish they had the same connectors. Then I have to wait until cable manufacturers equip their aftermarket cables with MMCX connectors.

    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

Does anyone know what the HD800's retermination is? Is it MMCX? Because I have an SRH1840 by Shure, and I'm not completely satisfied with its sound. Many others said that if I change the cable , the edgy highs dissappear, but I don't want to buy DIY cables, beacause I rather trust in big names...

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

With this headphone it is. But not with some non-peaky headphones. My friend usally listens to music with 105dB since 2009, and he says that his ears haven't been damaged at all. He can even hear tiny noises better. (His headphone is a HD650) But be aware of that my pair hasn't been burned in yet.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

Unfortunately what spkrs01 said is true, they are very fatiguing around 90-95dB, which is volume I'm am usually listening to headphones, so I'm a bit confused... At low volumes the music doesn't sound good enough, there isn't any life in it.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

Man, these are getting better and better. Indeed the bass fills in(It was too little for me on the day before yesterday, but now it's enough), the midrange also become denser, warmer. I was ready to sell them initially, because it was too lean in the midrange, and there was a fairly big peak in...

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I have just recieved my 1840s. Listening to it right now out from a D2X, initial impressions are fairly positive. I will post my impressions after burn-in.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

The fact that they are easy to drive doesn't mean that they don't a need a good SOURCE at all. It means that you don't need an AMP.
  23. voyager123

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I don't need a DAC, just an AMP. Even my D2X is better than this. Also I'm seeking in much higher price range than that. If somebody uses a 700 $ headphone with 140 $ source, he doesn't take the headphone capabilities seriously. But anyway, thanks for the suggestion. In my opinion, a...

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

I am using a Xonar D2X right now, but I also have an Essence One with a destroyed headphone amplifier, so I can only use it as a DAC with a headphone amp, but right now I don't have any, so I want to buy one, where I can plug the Shures.

    Shure SRH1840 and SRH1440 Unveiled!

It looks like that I'm gong to recieve my pair of these beautiful cans in the middle of this week. I am very excited. Do they even scale up with better amps? Because now I need to buy an AMP as well, and I'm not willing to pay 1000$ on an AMP, if it is not needed.
