Samsung Galaxy 5.0 reviews?
Quote: Agreed for all points except the MX video player. I haven't tried it yet, but thanks for the recommendation. I have been using QQPlayer. It's good...seems to play everything like VLC player does for the PC.- Captain Kracker

Neutron Music Player on Android
I did not care for the four band EQ in Neutron, but other than that it did sound good and had a decent UI...no Android application is 100% in that department in my opinion. What ultimately killed Neutron for me, and I really wanted to like it, was that it did not handle loud volume very well. ...- Captain Kracker

Android: Poweramp vs PlayerPro vs Uber Music
Quote: I had a problem with this too with my Samsung Galaxy Player 5. It really pissed my off, but ultimately I figured out that I had to set PowerAmp's Audio Thread Priority to "highest" under the Advanced Tweaks settings. That cured the skipping. I thought tweaking the buffer in...- Captain Kracker

New Android: Pantech Burst
That Pantec looks slick. I like the dual core and full gig of RAM. My Samsung SGP 5 has a single core and only about 340MB of RAM, though it is far from sluggish. As long as you had full access to the Android market and it allows you to load third-party apps, then I would say go for it.- Captain Kracker

Android: Poweramp vs PlayerPro vs Uber Music
I have not used PlayerPro or UberMusic, but I have A-B tested PowerAmp against Neutron and Rockbox. With my Samsung SGP 5.0. For free you cannot beat Rockbox. Get a copy here: http://rasher.dk/rockbox/android/ For a polished app with potential, PowerAmp is hard to beat. It is not...- Captain Kracker

Any Smashing Pumpkins fans here?
Quote: Ah...I didn't think to look and see who was singing. I though Billy did all the vocals...James Iha did Farewell and Goodnight on that album as well. I guess it is official, I don't like his vocals : )- Captain Kracker

The Official Rockbox for Android Registry
Minor update...I do not know if this is a bug or a feature, but the FF and RW graphical buttons do not skip to the next song. If I hold, they do FF and RW, would like to have dual use buttons or more buttons to manipulate the songs. I can go into the track list by touching the album art and...- Captain Kracker

The Official Rockbox for Android Registry
The 800x480 and the 480x800 (best with my setup) versions run well on my Samsung Galaxy Player 5 unrooted running Gingerbread 2.3.5. First thoughts is that Rockbox is far superior than the stock player software that was included with the player for sound quality. With no EQ applied and zero...- Captain Kracker

Any Smashing Pumpkins fans here?
I finally broke down and bought Mellon Collie after only owning a few singles forever. I have to say it is a great album overall, sure there are some stinkers in there...which were almost every song Billy tries to sing sweet - Cupid De Locke (sappy), Take me Down (sounds like Big Bird from...- Captain Kracker

Android App for Music with ALAC
The stock audio software on the SGP is not all that great. It is super simple to use, but at volumes 50% and above it sounds rather muddy. I have tested Neutron and PowerAMP and either one is far superior to the stock software for sound quality. PowerAMP is probably the best polished software...- Captain Kracker

samsung galaxy player wifi 4/5
Yes evilhippie please link the information that confirms that the SGP 5.0 and 4.0 both use the Wolfson WM8994 DAC. I have not seen anything confirming this yet, I would love to see if anyone has torn a 5.0 apart or has full manufacturer specs. Here is the last info I saw regarding the DACs...- Captain Kracker

Any Smashing Pumpkins fans here?
Did anyone like the Zeitgeist album? Rather sad that all I have is Siamese Dream and Zeitgeist and a handful of singles. I thought Billy's vocals in Zeitgeist were rather flat and unenthusiastic. What album would you recommend next for someone who loves Siamese Dream?- Captain Kracker

Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0
I got the 5.0 for Christmas. Gadget wise it is cool, but sound wise the default music player software is not the greatest at high volumes which is necessary to play in the car. Sounds good with IEMs at moderate volumes. Soon I will get PowerAmp in hopes that it will improve the sound at...- Captain Kracker

New band "Sinshrift"
Not bad as far as I could tell from the two 96kbit AACs (RUN and INCESSANT) and one 128kbit AAC (INFECTIOUS) from the Youtube videos. Sound worthy of radio play, but not exactly my cup-o-tea.- Captain Kracker

The New Korn Album
Hum...new Korn album. I have everything Korn has put out, but I can't say that I am excited about this new release. I will buy it, but I am not holding my breath that it will be great. It seems like I am always hoping that they will put out something as good as their debut and Life is Peachy.- Captain Kracker

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (5:45-5:50)
I can hear it in my 1999 copy of the Early Days: The Best of Led Zeppelin, Vol. 1. In the "*dum // dum dum *dum // *dum *dum *dum" piece there almost sounds like a horn (your buzzing) in the background playing along with the guitar. Edit: I'm listening through the 1999 remasters...- Captain Kracker

Massive Attack - Mezzanine / poorly recorded?
I am not hearing distortion beyond the vocal reverb that is present throughout the whole track. The reverb appears to to get stronger toward the end, but no distortion. The fake vinyl popping and crackles dwell in roughly the same frequency range as the vocals, so that doesn't help.- Captain Kracker

USB Dac and can't elimate random static from the computer
If you only need the USB for power, then an externally powered USB like Barleyguy mentioned may work. If the Dell has a bad power supply, then it may still be a problem with an externally powered hub or not since your DAC still needs clean signal from the PC. Have you tried your setup on a...- Captain Kracker

Allegro Jazz and Classical Samplers from Amazon
Just thought I would pass on the discovery of free quality tunes from Amazon. After reading so many great things about Jazz and Classical on these forums, I decided to expand my horizons beyond my usual rock/metal confines. I snagged a few Miles Davis tracks to test the waters and then I found...- Captain Kracker

How "Millenial" Are You? Take the quiz!
I scored a 34 and was born in 78. Makes sense. I bet my wife would max out the score. Edit: Well my wife didn't max out the score...she only got an 88! She was born in 76 BTW.- Captain Kracker
