Looking for my first Custom IEM on a budget to use as "bedphones"

Those look like a good entry level CIEM. I see Massdrop has also offered "Ultimate Ears Reference Remastered Zebrawood CIEM" Those might be a bit higher on the price spectrum.

Looking for my first Custom IEM on a budget to use as "bedphones"

I love the idea, but no I don't. I wouldn't have guessed that that was possible. Thank you for sharing that. Nice to know that used CIEMs could be adapted to another person.

Looking for my first Custom IEM on a budget to use as "bedphones"

I've been toying with the idea of getting custom IEM for a long time. But they tend to be expensive. CustomArt Massdrop Exclusive - Ei.XX CIEM - $629.99 Is this the answer? Or is there something else I should consider? I'd love to spend less and I'm willing to spend more if it will satisfy me...

    DACMagic Plus Impressions

A friend made me a great deal on a pair of Sennheiser HD-800's and ruined my life.  Ok, no, not really, but I'm having difficulty finding something I want to plug em into and I've stuck the jack into every socket I find.  I've never done that with any headphones I've had before, but these things...

Using Fiio X3 as USB DAC with Samsung 2014 note 10.1

The X3 is set to DAC mode when plugged into USB and it works fine with a computer, but when I use and OTG cable to plug it into my Samsung 2014 note 10.1, the X3 goes in and out of DAC mode continuously every few seconds and sound plays through the speakers on the tablet.  Has anyone gotten this...

    Fiio X3 and Sennheiser HD-800

I'm using the X3 with these headphones right now, at work.  The biggest issue seems to be that a co-worker across the room can hear the music clearly and thinks I must be deaf to be listening so loud.  Fortunately I work graveyard so there aren't many to disturb.  With Gain set to High, I have...

    Fiio X3 and Sennheiser HD-800

Has anyone tried to use a Sennheiser HD-800 with an X3?  I already have the X3, a friend is offering me a great deal on the HD-800s.  I'm guessing it wouldn't work very well...  I pretty much only use headphones at work and I can't leave anything on the desk when I leave because it is shared...

Air Motion Transformer or Folded Motion Transformer for headphones?

I've got a set of Fostex T50RP that I could cannibalize to build some DIY cans, but I'm intrigued with the AMT / FMT I've heard.  The Martin Logan or Goldring speakers I've heard are pretty nice.  ...

Is there a portable headphone amp / DAC that will take a Micro-HDMI (micro-D connector)?

I have a Kindle Fire HD that I'm using at work, it has a Micro-HDMI (micro-D connector) output on it.  I'm wondering if there's a portable headphone amp / dac combo that will take this input?  Or is there an adapter that will give me a USB output?  I have an iBasso D7 that would be good to use...

    Mid-fi Shootout - HD600 - HD598 - Focal Spirit One - Philips Fidelio L1

Great review!  I love the criteria and scoring.  Only thing I'd like to see added would be sound isolation scoring because I work in a noisey environment.  I've had some Philips Uptowns on order for awhile, but they're not due out until May.  Frustrated with the wait, I keep looking for...

    D7 Sidewinder....Initial impressions

Quote: The EF2A is only capable of 16-bit sound and I've been ripping my vinyl records at 24-bit / 96kHz in the last couple months.  So yes, it is definately an upgrade.  I'd still recommend the EF2A though, it's a very high-quality device and offers a warm tube sound and may be more...

    D7 Sidewinder....Initial impressions

Thank you everyone who has posted good information about this device.  I ordered one earlier this week and it reached my home in Seattle, WA in 2 days.  I am really impressed by that shipping speed (why did DVD's from Blockbuster take longer?).   It came with 2 usb cables (1 shorty and a...

Best noise isolating over the ear headphone under $300

Oh duh!  I should have said that I will be using these headphones with a HifFiman EF2A desktop DAC / amp with vintage Raytheon tubes.  I've been using some Grado SR-225's with that, but they let too much computer / HVAC / power transformer noise in.   Brought in my Thinksound TS02's passive...

Best noise isolating over the ear headphone under $300

I just want passive isolation.  Gotta be comfortable enough to wear for 8 hours, not too tight.  Thanks for the input, folks!

Best noise isolating over the ear headphone under $300

Only the vmoda m-80 and the Philips Citiscape seem to make direct claims about noise isolation.  I work in a big computer lab with lots of people and machines, I want to drown it all out and just hear my music.  The Sennheiser Amperior with their milled aluminium cups might be good at blocking...

    WOW!!! I gave J River a try...

I just loaded JRiver Media Player 16.  I was using WinAmp, but it kept stopping and starting when I'd open and close other apps and what not.  Very annoying.  Jriver doesn't suffer from that problem.  But it's introduced a constant hiss that's too loud to be ignored.  It's not just that it...

Hifiman EF2A - Works for a few mins and then freaks out with loud white noise

Actually, I haven't tried the line-level input yet.  Don't have a way to do that, here at work.  I'll be bringing it home with me after work tomorrow and I'll give it a shot.

Hifiman EF2A - Works for a few mins and then freaks out with loud white noise

Moved it to rear USB port and it's been working flawlessly for hours.  Go figure.  Thinking it must be not handling voltages above or below a particular threshold so I'll have to do a return on it to get one that's less finicky and more reliable.

That's pretty much what I figured, but I was hoping for an answer that'd let me use it tonight.

Hifiman EF2A - Works for a few mins and then freaks out with loud white noise

Just received a Hifiman EF2A a couple days ago.  It worked fine on one computer for several hours, but then tried it on my laptop and just now on my work PC and I'm finding that it works for a few mins and then the music stops abruptly and loud white noise fills my ears.  So it seems like the...

Which is best under $300? Hifiman EFA2 vs Maverick Tube Magic D1 vs iBasso?

I'm interested in a headphone amp with USB DAC for use at work with my Grado SR-225's.  I think I'd enjoy something more with tubes than something portable, but I've read a lot of good things about the iBasso offerings vs some of the more popular desktop budget / entry level amps.  I might get...

FiiO E9 price on Amazon - raised from $28 to $111?

What's up with the price change on this?  I was thinking about buying one the other day for $28, but now it's $111.  What happened?

What is the best under $300 desktop / portable DAC/headphone amp for Xmas 2011?

While I'm at work, I spend most of 8 hours with headphones on.  I've got a cheap, older tower PC that I work on.  The audio is clear and easy to understand, but doesn't inspire.  I'm looking for a headphone amp that I can plug into the USB and use as a DAC.   I'll mostly use Grado SR-225's...
